LAS MkII

LAS MkII

LAS MkII

Product catalog summary
Introduction
The LAS MkII Scintillometer is designed for measuring sensible heat fluxes and evaporation over large scales, ranging from 100 meters to 4.5 kilometers. It is crucial for meteorology and hydrology, providing data for energy balance studies and evaporation monitoring.

Specifications
The device operates as a stand-alone unit with an integrated data logger and digital data processing capabilities. It offers real-time data display and can be configured easily using a built-in keypad and display. The LAS MkII supports both analogue and digital outputs for data collection.

Applications
In hydrology, the LAS MkII is used for measuring surface energy balance components, including evapotranspiration, which are essential for hydrological models. In meteorology, it helps determine the turbulent characteristics of the boundary layer by measuring the structure parameter of the refractive index of air (Cn²).

System Configuration
The LAS MkII can be configured with different components depending on the measurement needs. Options include a basic setup with a transmitter and receiver, or an extended setup with additional meteorological sensors for comprehensive data collection.

Features
The LAS MkII is designed for easy installation and operation, requiring minimal maintenance. It includes a built-in data logger, real-time data display, and supports both analogue and digital outputs. The EVATION® software facilitates configuration, monitoring, and data processing.

Technical Specifications
The LAS MkII operates at a wavelength of 850 nm and supports path lengths from 100 m to 4.5 km. It includes a programmable lens heater and is protected against environmental conditions with an IP65 rating. The system operates within a temperature range of -20 °C to +50 °C and supports 0 to 100% non-condensing humidity.

Additional Options
An optional meteorological sensor kit is available, including sensors for wind speed, temperature, and pressure, which can be directly connected to the scintillometer receiver. The system is pre-configured for simple installation and offers options for remote communication and power supply.

LAS MkII-2

LAS MkII Large Aperture Scintillometer Heat uxes and evaporation at the Earth’s surface are of great importance to the elds of meteorology and hydrology. The LAS MkII Scintillometer is Kipp & Zonen’s solution for long term unattended monitoring of Cn² and heat uxes within the planetary boundary layer. Sensible heat ux causes a temperature dierence within the atmosphere; its eects are detectable by measuring ambient temperature at two heights. Latent-heat ux is the result of the evaporation of water or transpiration by vegetation. For this reason, this ux is often referred to as evapo-transpiration...

LAS MkII-3

LAS MkII large aperture scintillometer is designed to oer easy installation, conguration and operation, requiring only limited maintenance. The LAS MkII can be installed and congured using its built-in display and key-pad without the need for any extra equipment. This prevents the inconvenience of carrying additional instruments to the site of installation. The LAS MkII has a built-in data logger and digital outputs for direct PC connection. Real time measurements are shown on the display. The Cn² data is also available as an analogue output to be recorded using virtually any type of data acquisition...
