Overview
UNIBRANETM is a proprietary Membrane Bio Reactor (MBR) system developed by Keppel Seghers for wastewater treatment. It combines biological degradation with membrane filtration to produce high-quality effluent suitable for reuse. The system is designed for both industrial and municipal applications, offering a compact and efficient solution.

Principle
The UNIBRANETM system is noted for its high performance in effluent quality, system availability, and cost-effectiveness. It can be configured with membranes either submerged in biomass or mounted externally, facilitating advanced biological and phosphorus removal while generating less excess sludge compared to conventional systems.

Applications
UNIBRANETM is versatile, suitable for various wastewater types and adaptable to different plant sizes and flow rates due to its modular design. It is implemented in locations such as Fuji, Tilburg in the Netherlands, and Cova Da Beira in Portugal, with capacities of 13,250 and 12,500 population equivalents, respectively.

Process Description
The submerged system uses flat sheet membranes immersed in the process tank, directly contacting the mixed liquor. Air is introduced below the membranes to maintain cleanliness and support biological growth. The system is highly automated, ensuring ease of operation and low maintenance costs. An external version is available for lower capacities or higher temperature conditions, albeit with higher energy consumption.
