KANTHAL® AM100

Product catalog summary
Introduction
Kanthal AM100 is a ferritic iron-chromium-aluminium alloy (FeCrAl) designed for additive manufacturing. It is used to create products with complex geometries such as heating elements, burner nozzles, and protective shells. The alloy is known for its high strength and stability at elevated temperatures, forming a protective aluminium oxide layer that offers excellent resistance in harsh environments.
Chemical Composition
The nominal composition includes Chromium (19.0-23.5%), Aluminium (4.5-5.5%), and a balance of Iron. Maximum allowable percentages for Carbon, Silicon, and Manganese are 0.08%, 0.7%, and 0.4% respectively.
Mechanical Properties
Kanthal AM100 exhibits a yield strength of 560-610 MPa and tensile strength of 660-710 MPa, with an elongation range of 22-28% and a hardness of 250 Hv. It maintains form stability and strength at high temperatures.
High Temperature Creep Properties
The material demonstrates significant creep strength, with 1% elongation stress values decreasing from 8.9 MPa at 100 hours to 1.2 MPa at 100,000 hours at 1100°C.
Physical Properties
Density is 7.15 g/cm³, and electrical resistivity at 20°C is 1.39 Ω mm²/m. The coefficient of thermal expansion varies from 11 x 10-6/K at 20-250°C to 15 x 10-6/K at 20-1000°C. Thermal conductivity ranges from 11 W/m·K at 20°C to 27 W/m·K at 1200°C. Specific heat capacity increases from 0.46 kJ/kg·K at 20°C to 0.74 kJ/kg·K at 1200°C.
Operating Conditions
The melting point is 1500°C, with a maximum continuous operating temperature in air of 1300°C. The material is magnetic up to approximately 600°C.

KANTHAL® AM100-1

KANTHAL* Part of Sandvik Group KANTHAL® AM100 ADDITIVE MANUFACTURED PRODUCTS DATASHEET Kanthal® AM100 is an advanced heat resistant ferritic iron-chromium-aluminium alloy (FeCrAl alloy) specially developed for additive manufacturing. This allows Kanthal to offer printed products with customized geometries that can be difficult to produce by traditional methods. Examples of products printed with Kanthal® AM100 are heating elements, burner nozzles, and protective shells, fittings and manifolds, etc. The printed Kanthal® AM100 material has high strength and very good form stability at high temperatures. The material forms a highly protective aluminium oxide layer, which gives excellent protection in most demanding high temperature furnace environments, e.g. oxidizing, sulphidizing, and carburizing.
