Integrated Drive Solenoid for Divert Applications in Shoe Sortation Equipment Although shoe sorters have dominated the warehouse automation industry for decades, increasing their performance has posed significant challenges. The Solligence fast rotary actuator is designed specifically to overcome these long-standing obstacles. Smart integrated drive electronics deliver superior divert motion speed while eliminating issues with heat, high energy use, payload bounces and more — increasing throughput and efficiency while enhancing the bottom lines of integrators and end users. Cost Reduction From Day One The integrated drive package includes on-board energy storage, an artificial intelligence (AI)-capable microprocessor, solenoid drive circuit, and multiple customizable input/output (I/O) channels. In addition to enabling performance enhancements, this powerful combination reduces installation labor and maintenance requirements for the life of the actuator. Flexible, Lightning-fast Performance in a Compact Design The Solligence fast rotary actuator delivers actuation times as low as 5 ms. This industry-leading performance enables sortation speeds of up to 800 f/m (4 m/s), with a customizable stroke between 15° and 30°. Accepting a single 24 VDC digital input to control position, this bistable unit responds to edge transitions in the input voltage. A rising edge (from 0 to 24 VDC) moves the actuator to position A, and the falling edge on the same input (24 VDC back to 0) causes the actuator to move to position B. Eliminates Thermal Challenges While Saving Energy Because Solligence is a bistable actuator, power is only required to change positions; home or divert positions can be maintained without it. This significantly reduces heat generation, allowing faster continuous-duty operation. The unit’s low voltage and current requirements (averaging less than 1.2 A under standard operation) reduce installation and energy costs, enabling narrower-gauge wire and smaller, less expensive power supplies to be used. Integral on-board energy storage allows power to be slowly “sipped” from the main bus during the entire cycle, actuating the solenoid with bursts of power to generate high velocity as needed. The integrated drive unit eliminates the needs for an external solenoid driver, control box, and assembly labor. In addition, the unit’s integral energy storage effectively creates an “electronic spring” that can return it to a home position if power fails. Downtime Prevention With Smart Performance and Monitoring AI algorithms enable predictive maintenance and ensure consistent performance. They significantly reduce bounce, extending the life of the product by continuously monitoring changes in motion duration, adjusting the drive profile as needed to continue meeting specifications.
