G58/G58I BRAIDED FLEXIBLE GRAPHITE PACKING Technical Specification Product Description Performance Capabilities G58 and G58I are high-purity, high-strength interlace braided flexible graphite packings designed to handle a wide range of fluids. These packings feature superior chemical compatibility. They have self-lubricating and heat-dissipating properties, making them ideal for use where fast break-in and reduced shaft/sleeve wear are concerns. These unique packings have proven to be excellent for leakage control, while being resilient and dimensionally stable, leading to longer packing life. They are highly recommended for steam valve service and process applications. • Temperature: oxidizing: -240°C to 455°C/-400°F to 850°F nonoxidizing: -240°C to 2500°C/-400°F to 4500°F functional steam: up to 650°C/1200°F • Pressure: pump, G58 up to 20 bar/300 psi valve up to 296 bar/4300 psi • Speed: up to 20 m/s/4000 fpm** • pH range: 0 to 14 (nonbuffered solutions) * * For high-speed applications, contact John Crane. The yarn is tightly braided and squared to provide resiliency and stuffing box conformity. G58I - This packing incorporates the same yarn as G58 with the addition of a high-strength, high-temperature wire mesh encapsulating the yarn. The wire mesh provides additional tensile strength and extrusion resistance. It is available in an optional Z configuration. This design incorporates John Crane’s graphite dispersion with the addition of a sacrificial corrosion inhibitor. This configuration has superior sealing capabilities and void infiltration, and is an excellent process and steam valve packing for low to high pressure applications up to 650°C/1200°F*. * For higher temperatures, con

G58/G58I BRAIDED FLEXIBLE GRAPHITE PACKING Technical Specification Standard Sizes G58 and G58I are recommended for a wide range of fluids, including most acids (except strong oxidizers), caustics, solvents, high-temperature steam, gases, hydrocarbons, pulp, paper stock, and water. For valve service, these packings can be supplied as die-formed rings for high-volume assembly. They can also be supplied in spool form, simplifying valve repacking, since they can be cut to a specific size.
