SOLID SHIMS, FOILS AND EXTRA-THIN SHIMS Solid shims, whether ground or otherwise, consist of a close-grained material of predetermined thickness. They are used in all cases in which there are significant stresses (vibration, tension, shear forces, etc.). They are of very high accuracy since they are strictly made to measure and for immediate use on site. They are therefore found in some aeronautical mechanical assemblies such as mountings for equipments mounted on civil and military aircraft engines. Individual extra-thin shims are solid shims used to compensate for play that is often less than 1/1 Oth of a millimetre. Made to drawing, in steel, aluminium, stainless steel or polymer, they are produced in thicknesses of 0.025, 0.05, 0.10 and 0.20 mm and even down to 0.01 mm for stainless steel. Whatever the shape, they are machined and not cut out. Jicey therefore guarantees a high precision part without burrs for very thin shimming.
