SOLID SHIMS Solid shims, whether ground or not, are made of a rigid material ofa predetermined thickness. They are used in all cases where there are very serious constraints (vibration, traction or shearing forces). They are very high precision as they are made strictly to measure and are used immediately on site. They may also be found in cer- tain aeronautical mechanical assemblies, such as supports forequipment fixed to the engines of civil and military aircraft. Solid shims are available in a very wide range of dimensions, thick-nesses, hardnesses and materials:- Carbon steels from foils or sheets of 1000 x 1000 or 1500 x 2500 mm (DC03 / DC04 steel with average mechanical resistance, XC75 steel, tempered or not, with strong mechanical resistance)- Stainless steels from foils or sheets of 1000 x 1000 or 1500 x 2500 mm (AISI 304 / 306 / 321 stainless steel)- Special aeronautical steels from sheets of 1000 x 2000, 5/10ths to 3 mm thick (X17U4 / 15CDV6 steel) - Aluminium (1050 - 1024) - Brass (UZ10 / 30 / 33) - Bronze (UBE2) - Titanium - PVC, ABS, Polyester, Kapton *, Mylar * Extra-thin unitary shims are solid shims that compensate playthat is often less than 1/10th of a millimetre. They are made to adrawing in steel, aluminium, stainless steel or polymer, in thick- nesses of 0.025, 0.05, 0.10 or 0.20 mm, and even from 0.01 mm for stainless steel. Whatever their shape, they are machined and not cut out, which guarantees a part of very high precision without burrs for very fine adjustment. > *DUPONTde NEMOURS trade mark
