Introduction: Alkomposit Viewtek® is a bi-composed laminated peelable
shim made from polyethylene terephthalate (polyester) films. It is designed for applications requiring insulation and lightweight properties across a wide temperature range.
Specifications: The shim offers electrical insulation, chemical resistance, flexibility, and easy peeling. It features a patented marking process for easy identification of film thickness (0.025 - 0.1mm) using color codes. The shim is highly resistant to temperatures from -70°C to +220°C and prevents contact corrosion.
Advantages: Key benefits include low density (50% of aluminum), thin layers (0.025 to 0.1mm), tool-free separation, and reusability of peeled layers. It can function as a damper or vibration filter and is safe to use with minimal risk of cuts.
Applications: Alkomposit® M is suitable for electrical insulation applications, replacing machined or ground metal shims. The Viewtek® process simplifies shim adjustment by marking thickness directly on the surface.
Physical Properties: The shim exhibits a tensile strength of 200 MPa, density of 1.395 g/cm³, and a melting point of 253-255°C. It has a low friction coefficient and excellent thermal properties.
Chemical Properties: The shim shows high resistance to various chemicals, including glacial acetic acid, hydrochloric acid, and ethanol. It has low permeability to gases like carbon dioxide and nitrogen.
Electrical Properties: It offers a dielectric strength of 6400 volts and high volumetric and surface resistivity, making it suitable for electrical applications.
Time and Cost Savings: The use of peelable shims reduces the need for machining, offering time savings of over 50%. It allows for relaxed machining tolerances, reducing costs while maintaining precision.
Shapes and Customization: The shims can be cut or machined into various flat geometric shapes. Multi-part shims are available for larger dimensions, and special structures or additional materials can be incorporated.
