Staylock Clamps

Product catalog summary
Overview: The document provides comprehensive information on Jergens StayLock Clamps, detailing various models, specifications, and applications. These clamps are designed for secure and flexible clamping in industrial settings, particularly in machining and molding operations.
Specifications: The document outlines several types of clamps, including Die/Mold Clamps, Large Capacity Mold Clamps, Retractable Clamps, Rocker Clamps, and Mini-Rocker Clamps. Each type has specific part numbers, operating volumes, pressure requirements, force ratios, and clamping ranges. For instance, Die/Mold Clamps have a clamping force ranging from 4,000 to 10,000 lbs, while Large Capacity Mold Clamps can exert up to 28,000 lbs of force.
Procedures: StayLock Clamps feature a patented mechanical locking mechanism that requires hydraulic pressure to both clamp and unclamp. This mechanism allows the clamps to remain locked even when disconnected from the hydraulic power source, reducing the risk of accidental unclamping.
Applications: These clamps are suitable for various industrial applications, including injection molding machines, die casting machines, punch presses, and machining centers. They are particularly beneficial in quick-change scenarios for molds and dies.
Recommendations: The document recommends using Jergens Air-Operated Hydraulic Pumps with StayLock Clamps for optimal performance. It emphasizes the importance of using the correct hydraulic pressure and components, such as control valves and fittings, to ensure system efficiency.
Common Questions: The document addresses frequently asked questions about StayLock Clamps, such as pressure retention, locking mechanisms, and compatibility with air systems. It clarifies that hydraulic pressure is necessary for operation and that air pressure alone is insufficient for locking the clamps.
Technical Assistance: Jergens offers technical support, including CAD schematic drawings and part number assistance, to aid in designing StayLock Clamping systems.
Key Features: The clamps offer a positive mechanical lock that minimizes reclamping and setup costs, flexibility in clamping applications with various mounting options, and compatibility with high-temperature applications using Viton® seals.
Additional Clamps and Components: The document also covers Block Clamps, Toe Clamps, Swing Clamps, and Air-Powered Hydraulic Pumps. Block Clamps are designed for both vertical and horizontal clamping, Toe Clamps provide two directional clamping forces, and Swing Clamps feature an 80° rotating clamping arm. Air-Powered Hydraulic Pumps convert shop air to hydraulic pressure and are available in High Volume and Shoebox styles.
Valves and Subplates: Zero-Leakage Valves and Subplates are recommended for efficient hydraulic pressure management, minimizing maintenance and wear.
Additional Information: The document includes a chart for converting manual power to hydraulic pressure, aiding in the transition from manual to hydraulic clamping systems. Specifications and performance curves for pumps and clamps are provided for detailed technical reference.

StayLock Clamps ...the Hydraulic clampwith the mechanical advantage! Withconventional power clamping, whenpressure is put to the clamp, it clamps...take the pressure away (onpurpose or not), it unclamps. With theStayLock Clamp's patented internal locking mechanism, hydraulic pressure is needed to clamp...and to unclamp! StayLock Swing Clamp on aTombstone Fixture The Swing Clamp rotates 80 ְ away from the workpiece, allowing easy loading andunloading of the part. In this application, the tombstone ismounted on a double palletmachining center. When the pallet rotates, the StayLockClamp remains clamped....

The Die/Mold Clamp is mounted (eitherpermanently, or by using T-Slots) on the injection molding machine platen. The mold is mounted on subplates. Bystandardizing on subplates with the same height and width, several differentmolds can be used on one injectionmolding machine. The mold is lowered into the machine, the Die/Mold Clampsare activated, hydraulic connections areremoved, and the job is run. A Sensor Interlock can be added to indicate tothe operator that the Die/Mold Clamp isclamping. If molds are used that have a clamping slot, either a StayLockRetractable Clamp or a StayLockRocker Clamp...

Compact design and dual mounting capability make theJergens StayLock Rocker Clamp versatile for many applica- tions. The Rocker Clamps come in two styles. Part number62841 is typically used with standard height subplates upon which the die, mold, or fixture plate is mounted. Part number62842 has an adjustable spindle which adapts to the height ofthe workpiece. Both styles of Rocker Clamps have drilled and tapped holes on the bottom of the clamp for mounting T-Slot nuts for use on slotted tables. This method of mounting allowsthe operator to slide the clamp to and from the workpiece foreasier...

The StayLock Mini-Rocker Clamp is designed forsmall parts workholding. Like the other StayLockClamps, the Mini-Rocker can be mounted at any angle. Clamping forces range from 200 lbs. to 700lbs. The Mini-Rocker can be used as a singleclamp; or because of its unique port arrangement, it can be manifold mounted. For inline applications, use the 61642 Valve mounted on a 61646Subplate (Order Part Number 61643). This set-up is also recom-mended for use with High Volume Air-Powered Hydraulic Pumps(61761, 61762) in StayLock and standard applications. For manifold mounting, directly on the pump, the 61647 Subplate and 61642 Valveare recommended. Because the Jergens Air-Powered HydraulicPump provides only the necessary hydraulic pressure to clamp and unclamp the StayLock Clamps, the Four-Way, Zero-Leakage Valve is recommended to prevent the unnecessary running of the pump, thusminimizing pump maintenance and...
