This document provides detailed installation, maintenance instructions, and certification information for Engine Bellhousings and JXL Anti-Static Flameproof Flywheel Couplings manufactured by jbj Techniques Limited. These components are designed for use in hazardous areas and comply with ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU and relevant harmonised standards.

Certification and Compliance

• Certified under Directive 2014/34/EU for use in explosive atmospheres.
• Conforms to harmonised standards: BS EN ISO 60079-0:2018, BS EN ISO 80079-36:2016, BS EN ISO 80079-37:2016, BS EN 1834-1:2000, BS EN 1834-3:2000.
• ATEX markings include Ex h I Mb, Ex h IIC TX Gb, Ex h IIIC TX Db.
• Service temperature range: -50°C to +105°C.
• Maximum surface temperature (Tx) depends on operating conditions and must not exceed 105°C.

Product Description

The JXL couplings are anti-static, flameproof flywheel couplings designed for engine bellhousing applications in hazardous environments. They accommodate axial misalignment and momentary overloads up to twice the nominal torque.

Installation Instructions

1. Fit the drive flange to the engine flywheel and tighten bolts according to engine manufacturer’s recommendations.
2. Fit the bellhousing to the engine flywheel housing or pump, tightening bolts as specified.
3. Fit the coupling hub to the pump shaft, adjusting to the correct setting distance (refer to arrangement drawings if provided). Tighten grub screws or L-Lock screws for splined shafts. Remove any unused additional grub screws at 90° to the keyway.
4. Assemble pump, coupling hub, and bellhousing ensuring no loose parts remain inside and maintain a minimum 5mm clearance between rotating and non-rotating components.
5. Tighten all bolts to specified torque values; use shake proof washers where recommended.

Note: For cases where the hub diameter exceeds the bellhousing bore, fit the pump centring before coupling hub installation.

Maintenance Guidelines

• Coupling pins are pre-tightened to specified torque values before shipment; these must be re-checked prior to installation.
• Periodic inspection of flange alignment and resilient elements is recommended, ideally annually.
• Worn resilient elements must be replaced with parts available from jbj Techniques, quoting the serial number.
• Misalignment must be corrected promptly to avoid damage.

Technical Parameters and Safety Information

• Operating temperature range: -50°C to +105°C.
• Momentary overload capacity: up to twice nominal torque.
• Maximum surface temperature (Tx) is dependent on operating conditions and must be determined by the machine builder.
• Equipment temperature class must not exceed T105°C.
• Resilient element bolt tightening torque: 9.2 Nm.

Typical Arrangements

• Example 1: Diesel engine 85 hp at 2,000 rpm with hydraulic pump (spline 12/24 DP, 14 teeth, SAE C 2 bolt flange).
• Example 2: Special design with spacer for diesel engine 490 hp at 1,950 rpm with hydraulic pump having extended cylindrical shaft.

ATEX Marking and Traceability

• Couplings and housings are marked with ATEX certification details including serial numbers and part numbers.
• Markings comply with BS EN ISO 80079-37:2016.
• Traceability is ensured through coupling assembly part numbers and individual component part numbers.
