Product catalog summary
Introduction to PLATINODE®
PLATINODE® refers to customized electrode production using pure platinum coatings on refractory metals like titanium and niobium. These coatings are essential in the electrochemical industry for their electrocatalytic properties.

Platinum Coating Process
The platinum coating is applied through high-temperature electrolysis (HTE) from a cyanide molten salt bath at 500 to 600 °C. This process ensures excellent adhesion, high ductility, and maximum purity, allowing for thick platinum layers with superior corrosion resistance and longevity.

Substrate Materials
Common substrates include titanium, niobium, tantalum, molybdenum, and tungsten, as well as special steel and iron/nickel alloys. These materials are available in various forms such as expanded metals, sheets, tubes, and wires, meeting DIN and ASTM specifications.

Advantages of PLATINODE®
  • Capability to manufacture complex shapes
  • Long service life and easy maintenance
  • High dimensional stability and loading capacity
  • Excellent corrosion resistance and low weight
  • Optimal current and thermal distribution
  • Replatinizing with credit for residual platinum

Applications
PLATINODE® anodes are used in hard chrome plating, precious and non-precious metal electroplating, electronics, semiconductor industries, and chemical process engineering.

Technical Specifications
The document provides technical specifications for various applications, including rhodium and gold baths, hard chromium plating, nickel baths, and anodizing, with specific thickness measurements for each application.

Standard Mesh Sizes
The document lists standard mesh sizes for expanded metal, detailing mesh length, width, sheet thickness, rib width, and surface factor for different types.

PLATINODE® PLATINIZED TITANIUM/NIOBIUM ANODES-1

umicore Electroplating Customized Electrode Production with Pure Platinum PLATINODE® describes the refractory metals, such as titanium and niobium, coated with purest platinum. The electrocatalytic functional layers of platinum or various precious metal oxides are used throughout virtually the entire electrochemical industry. The platinum coating is applied by means of high-temperature electrolysis (HTE). The platinum is deposited from a cyanide molten salt bath at temperatures of 500 to 600 °C. The functional platinum layer thus produced, shows excellent adhesion in addition to high ductility and maximum purity. It is possible to produce layers with high platinum thickness, maximum corrosion resistance and excellent service life. Refractory metals such as titanium, niobium, tantalum, molybdenum and tungsten are usually used as the substrate in the production of PLATINODE®. However, various special steelalloys and iron/nickel alloys are also used. Expanded metals, sheet metals, round stock, tubes, rods, ribbons and wires of the most varied materials and dimensions are available. The base metals meet the specifications of DIN and ASTM. Applications • Hard chrome plating (piston rings, printing cylinders, etc.) • Precious and non- precious metal electroplating • Electronics and semiconductor industry • Chemical process engineering Advantages • Manufacturing of complex shapes is possible • Long lifetime • Easy maintenance • High dimensional stability and loading capacity • Good corrosion resistance • Low weight • Perfect current and termal distribution • Replatinizing with crediting of residual platinu
