SCU810 System Communication Unit

SCU810 System Communication Unit

SCU810 System Communication Unit

Product catalog summary
Overview: The SCU 810 is a System Communication Unit designed for power utilities, facilitating communication between Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) and control centers. It supports multiple communication protocols and backup paths, enabling remote control, monitoring, and configuration of IEDs.
Features: Key features include support for GPS or DCF clock synchronization, PLC functions, non-volatile memory, self-supervision, and integrated diagnostic software. It also offers a set point facility and watchdog functionality.
Applications: The SCU 810 is suitable for use in high voltage (HV) and medium voltage (MV) substations, distribution automation systems, and as a communication gateway for protection management systems. It can integrate IEDs into substation or central SCADA systems and perform protocol conversion.
Description: This device acts as a communication gateway, connecting IEDs from Iskra Sistemi’s NEO 3000/2000 systems and third-party vendors. It supports multi-protocol communication and can be expanded with up to 64 communication ports using the ECU 032 extension unit. It is compatible with optical networks configured in star or ring topology.
Physical Interfaces: The SCU 810 is modular, allowing for different configurations of serial and Ethernet interfaces. It can integrate up to 4 serial interfaces internally, with the option to expand to 64 using ECU 032 units. Communication within substations is achieved via fiber optic cables or RS485 connections, while RS232 or Ethernet is used in control rooms.
Gateway and Protocol Converter Functions: The SCU 810 connects Iskra Sistemi and third-party IEDs to control centers, supporting various protocols such as IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5, DNP 3.0, and Modbus. It can also function as a protocol converter in smaller applications.
Other Functions: It provides time synchronization, energy metering data collection, and high-resolution event transmission. The SCU 810 allows remote configuration and service access to IEDs, facilitating the establishment of a Protection Management System (PMS).
Technical Data: The SCU 810 operates on a 9-36 VDC power supply, with a power consumption of 40 W. It functions within a temperature range of -10 to 55°C and supports up to 95% non-condensing humidity. The device is fanless, with dimensions of 195 x 238 x 177 mm and a weight of 5 kg.
Protocols Supported: The SCU 810 supports a wide range of protocols for communication with control centers and IEDs, including IEC 60870-5, DNP 3.0, Modbus, and others, ensuring compatibility with various manufacturers and systems.

SCU810 System Communication Unit-4

System Communication Unit SCU 810 can be used as front end processor in control center. In this case one SCU 810 operates as primary and the other as redun- dant. SCU 810 communicates with substa- tions over external serial port multiplicator or redundant Ethernet network. If there is only one serial communication channel from substation CMU 100 device can be used to connect both SCU 810 on same communica- tion line. SCU 810 also supports redundancy on Ethernet for communication with SCADA. Control center SCADA Server SCADA Server serial port Technical data OPERATING CONDITIONS Power supply nominal...
