3 phase induction brake motors

Product catalog summary
Overview: The document provides comprehensive details about the AFT series of self-braking, three-phase induction motors made from cast iron, designed for high reliability and demanding applications. These motors are equipped with a DC-powered disc brake and are derived from the A series.
Specifications: The AFT series motors are constructed entirely with G20 cast iron, ensuring high mechanical strength and effective heat dissipation. They comply with insulation class F (H on request) and have a protection degree of IP55. The motors are CE marked and conform to EN60034 and IEC72 standards.
Features: Notable features include fast brake engagement and release, silent operation (<70dBA), robust mechanical construction, and high operational frequency. The motors have a simple design with few components, and the brake parts are protected by tropicalised galvanising.
Construction Forms: Available in various construction forms, the motors comply with IEC34-1, IEC34-7, IEC34-5, and IEC72 standards. Customers must specify the construction form when ordering.
Options: Optional accessories include a manual release lever, class H insulation, IP56 protection, tropicalisation, overload cutouts, special shafts and flanges, anti-condensation heaters, encoders, servo-ventilation, special lubrication systems, and special painting cycles.
Maintenance and Repairs: Regular inspection of brake parts is necessary. The air gap and braking torque should be adjusted as specified. Wear depends on factors like inertia and motor speed, so no general replacement interval is provided.
Warranty: ISGEV S.p.A. offers a 12-month warranty from the delivery date, covering defects in workmanship or assembly. The warranty excludes natural wear, misuse, or customer tampering. Repairs or replacements must be conducted at the company's facilities, with transportation costs borne by the customer.
Protection and Configuration: The braking unit has a standard protection degree of IP55, with an optional watertight configuration of IP56 for saline and naval environments.
Degrees of Protection: A table lists the number and dimensions of cable glands required for different frame sizes, ranging from Pg 13.5 to Pg 29 for standard glands, and M20 x 1.5 to M40 x 1.5 for optional requests.
Earthing and Connections: Motors are equipped with internal and external earthing connectors. Standard motors support 230/400 or 400/690 Volt 50 Hertz power supply, with other options available on request.
Wiring Diagrams: Several wiring diagrams are provided for brake coils with separate power supplies, detailing configurations for single-speed and two-speed motors, including Dahlander type and separate windings.
Performance Data: Detailed tables provide performance data for various motor types, including power, speed, current, efficiency, and torque characteristics at 400 V 50 Hz. The data covers motors with 2, 4, 6, and 8 poles, and includes brake characteristics such as air gap, static/dynamic torque, and power requirements.
Brake Characteristics: Specifications for brake types, air gaps, static/dynamic torque, and operational times for closing and opening, along with current and power requirements, are included.

Main Sections:
  • Product Versions: Motors are available in both cast iron and aluminum versions, catering to different industrial needs.
  • Motor Types: Various motor types are listed, including brake motors, explosion-proof motors, servo ventilated motors, and motors designed for extreme temperatures. Specialized motors for marine, railway, and high-speed applications are also mentioned.
  • Additional Features: Motors can be equipped with features such as integrated inverters, voltage regulators, and soft start capabilities. Options for synchronous reluctance motors and vector motors are available.
  • Applications: Suitable for a wide range of applications, including synthetic fiber stretching units, motorized spindles, and railway systems.

Before carrying out any operation on the brake, cut off thepower supply and, if the brake has been operating for a fewhours, wait until the surfaces have cooled down. The airgap is adjusted using the registers (1) after having loosenedthe fastening screws (2) . Before starting to use the brake, make sure that the screws are firmly tightened in the support flange. Before using the brake, it is important to adjust the braking torque based on the data indicated in the followingtables (BRAKE CHARACTERISTICS). To adjust the brakingtorque, use the ring nut (3) , which engages the torquesprings (4) ....
