General Installation Guide Overview
This guide provides comprehensive instructions for the installation, calibration, testing, and operation of the ED3 & ED4 SkidWeigh Plus on-board check weighing unit. For further assistance, customer support is available via email or phone.
Safety Precautions
  • Disconnect the vehicle battery before installation.
  • Ensure all components are securely mounted and do not interfere with vehicle controls.
  • Installation should be performed by a qualified technician.
  • Use soldering or crimp connectors for wire connections, ensuring they are insulated.
  • The unit connects directly to the vehicle's ignition switch (12 to 55 V DC).
Electro-Magnetic Compatibility
The system complies with CE standards for EMC, ensuring interference stability and emission control.
Components Overview
The system includes a digital indicator, hydraulic pressure transducer, and installation manual.
Operational Principle
The system uses a hydraulic pressure transducer to measure load weight by converting pressure changes into electronic signals.
Pressure Transducer Installation
  • Install in the hydraulic line between the lift control valve and lift cylinder.
  • Ensure the hydraulic circuit is pressure-free before installation.
  • Use thread seal for a tight fit.
Mounting the Digital Indicator
  • Mount on the vehicle dashboard or side railing using the provided bracket.
  • Ensure visibility and accessibility for the operator.
Electrical Connections
  • Operates from 12 to 55 V DC.
  • Follow specific wiring instructions for the digital indicator and pressure transducer.
  • The system includes internal short circuit protection.
Quick Test for Electrical Connections
  • Lower forks, turn on ignition, and check if the LCD display activates.
  • If the display shows a random load weight, connections are correct.
Pressure Transducer Test Procedure
  • Test the transducer by pressing the F key and entering function 4.
  • Ensure the sensor value changes with fork movement.
Calibration Process
  • Calibration involves lifting empty and loaded forks to set the system.
  • Use a known load weight for accurate calibration.
  • Follow the LCD prompts to complete the calibration process.
Date/Time Setup
  • Adjust date and time by pressing the F key and entering function 3.
  • Use arrow keys to change values and confirm with the Enter key.
Additional Notes
  • For lift trucks with hydraulic accumulators, contact the manufacturer for specific software.
  • Ensure the system displays weight in the desired unit (pounds or kilograms) during calibration.
Calibration Procedure
The calibration of the ED3 & ED4 system weighing function involves storing a calibrated load weight value of 2000 in the system memory. Once calibration is complete, the LCD display will revert to showing the date and time.
Operator Proper Weighing Procedure
  1. Insert the forks into the pallet or under the product to be weighed.
  2. Lower the forks to the ground, ensuring the LCD displays the current date and time.
  3. Activate the lift control valve to lift the loaded forks just above the ground.
  4. The LCD will display "PLEASE WAIT" and then show the load weight, e.g., 1245.
  5. The displayed load weight remains until the forks are lowered again.
Important Notes
  • The load weight is displayed until the next lowering of the forks.
  • Random load weights may appear when the vehicle is in motion due to hydraulic spikes; these do not represent actual load weights.
  • To start a new weighing cycle, lower the loaded forks to the ground and lift them again.
  • The ED4 SkidWeigh Plus Series includes a USB port for connectivity.

Operational principal The ED3 SkidWeigh Plus operational principal is based on the hydraulic pressure transducer mounted in the vehicle lifting hydraulic circuit that will automatically activate the “weighing cycle / specic algorithm ” every time a skid load is lifted just above the ground. The increase in pressure is converted in an electronic signal at the sample rate of 16000 readings which is converted into a load weight reading. Pressure transducer installation The pressure transducer must be installed in the lifting hydraulic line between the lift control valve and lift cylinder(s). Mount...

“Quick test to determine if electrical connections are done right” Note: SkidWeigh weighing calibration function is not done yet at this stage. This procedure is only to test if electrical connections of the system installation into the vehicle is done properly! After you have connected electrical power and pressure transducer cable you can “quickly” check the system operation. - Lower the forks to the ground - Turn On ignition switch - Digital LCD display will be activated, showing software version and serial number - Digital LCD display will show current date and time Aug 28, 2010 12:20:23...

As of example LCD display might show 48 or any other value depending on the pressure. Keep lifting and lowering forks and that value should change accordingly. If sensor value is not changing check electrical connections to correct the problem with electrical connections of the pressure transducer 3 wires or you must replace pressure transducer. KEY TO EXIT SENSOR = 48 Press key to complete pressure transducer checking procedure. Lift truck equipped with hydraulic accumulators If the standard SkidWeigh system is installed on the lift trucks equipped with hydraulic accumulators, please contact...

Weighing calibration The ED3 & ED4 SkidWeigh Plus calibration is automatic and is done by lifting empty and loaded forks (or any other attachment such as paper clamp) just above the ground. MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE A KNOWN LOAD WEIGHT AND KEEP IT NEARBY TO COMPLETE THE CALIBRATION. For the best results use at least minimum calibration load test weight of 30 to 50% of maximum lifting capacity of the lift truck. Use customer oor scale or nd a known skid load weight within the operational facility. Important: If you want the system to show load weight in pounds, use the known load weight in pounds...

At this point you must lower the empty forks to the ground. The LCD display will show CALIBRATION 1 WEIGHT = ❏ At this point you must pick up a known load weigh and lower the loaded forks to the ground. ( Our example of the known load weight is 2000 kg) CALIBRATION 1 WEIGHT = 2000 Enter the known load weight of 2000 into the LCD display and press “Enter key” ↵. The LCD display will show CALIBRATION 1 LIFT LOAD At this point lift loaded forks just above the ground. After few seconds the calibrated load weight value of of 2000 will be stored in the system memory and the LCD display will go back...
