KNURLING TECHNOLOGY

Product catalog summary
Knurling Techniques
There are two main knurling techniques: radial feed knurling (R type) and axial feed knurling (F type). Radial knurling involves radial tool movement, matching knurl length with thickness, while axial knurling involves axial tool movement, suitable for both form and cut-knurling tools.

Form Knurling
Form knurling deforms material to create teeth, increasing the diameter of the piece. It is used when a larger final diameter is needed or for specific profiles like RGV, RKE, and RKV.

Cut-Knurling
Cut-knurling removes material to create teeth, offering higher precision and quality without significantly increasing diameter. Suitable for non-deformable materials like plastics and cast iron, applicable for profiles such as RAA, RBL, RBR, and RGE.

Choosing the Knurling Tool
Tool choice depends on knurling type and desired outcome, with options for pressure or cut-knurling tools. A table in the document details suitable tools for each type.

Recommended Feed and Speed
Tables provide recommended feed and speed values based on material type and knurling method, crucial for optimal results and preventing tool wear.

Troubleshooting
Solutions for common issues like double knurling or excessive wear include adjusting feed rates or modifying workpiece diameters to match pitch multiples.

Technical Specifications and Procedures
Specifications for knurling processes on materials like aluminium, brass, and steel are provided, including recommended values for cut-knurling, feed, and speed. The importance of the diameter-to-pitch ratio for quality knurling is emphasized.

Knurling Types and Standards
Describes knurling types, including parallel grooves, spiral grooves, and form knurling, referencing DIN 82 standards for various knurling forms.

Knurling Tools and Machine Compatibility
Lists knurling tools, features, and machine compatibility, with specifications for form-knurling tools suitable for conventional lathes.

Special Knurls and Manufacturing Data
Information on special knurls like conical, concave, convex, and stepped knurls, including necessary manufacturing data.

Coating Descriptions
Descriptions of coatings like Titanium Nitride (TiN), Titanium Carbon Nitride (TiCN), and Aluminum Chromium Nitride (AlCrN), highlighting applications and benefits.

Key Recommendations and Best Practices
Ensuring the workpiece circumference is a multiple of the knurl pitch is recommended to avoid double knurling and maintain tool performance.

Overview of Knurling Tools and Kits
Details specifications and features of knurling tools and kits, focusing on applications, configurations, and technical parameters.

Tool Models and Features
Descriptions of tool models like M9, M21, M5, M16, M22-A/B, M23-A/B, and M17, highlighting features like self-centering systems, reversible heads, and anti-wearing treatments.

Recommendations
Use appropriate tool models based on workpiece diameter and knurling type, ensure proper tool clearance angle adjustment, and regularly check and replace spare parts.

In form knurling the teeth...

The ratio between the diameter of the piece to be knurled and the pitch of the knurl is very important to achieve good quality knurling.
