Degree of protection IP56 Order option K51 Description The degree of protection of rotating electrical machinery defines the requirements on the enclosure so that the specified properties when correctly used for the intended purpose are kept in every regard. Further, the used materials and the design/construction ensure that the specified properties and attributes are maintained when correctly used. When ordering option K51, motors have the degree of protection IP56 against dust (first digit: 5) and moisture (second digit: 6). On one hand, this means that the ingress of dust is not totally prevented, but dust will not penetrate in sufficient quantities for satisfactory operation of the motor to be affected. On the other hand, water due to heavy seas or water in powerful jets is prevented from entering the enclosure in any quantity that could cause damage. If the enclosure has condensation drain holes, then the following must be applied: • Condensation drain holes that remain open at the installation location must also be kept open when testing. • Condensation drain holes that are closed at the installation site when the motor is used for the intended purpose, must also be closed when testing. • For motors with degree of protection IP5X, the condensation drain hole must have degree of protection IP4X. Note When an enclosure complies with a certain degree of protection, then this also means that the lower degrees of protection are also fulfilled! For heavy sea please be aware that splashed water and freezing may cause damages to the motor!
