Providing emergency power with lower emmisions - 1

Providing emergency power with lower emissions Dominion Energy Centreville, VA A complete emissions solution As federal emissions standards continue to tighten, it is becoming increasingly important for customers and packagers to use only the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to meet their engine, air-fuel ratio (AFR) control, and exhaust aftertreatment system needs. The historical practice of a packager purchasing from three separate companies and hoping they work together is falling by the wayside. GE’s new Waukesha models provide a comprehensive emissions solution that includes the three-way catalyst and AFR control systems. The engines are designed for 300 HP to 600 HP applications in gas compression, air compression, power generation, mechanical drive, and EPA mobile and stationary certified applications. A Waukesha* VGF engine providing emergency power to Dominion Energy’s Pleasant Valley Compressor Station in Centreville, VA, is the first factory-packaged generator set featuring the new H24SE-EPA gas engine. The engine has lower emissions than previous lean burn offerings used for similar installations, including about one-tenth of the NOx production. The Waukesha H24SE-EPA has one of the most advanced control platforms in the segment, with broad protection features and capabilities. Advanced controls technology has improved overall engine performance control and stability, and added knock protection, fault logging and more. Additional enhancements include extending the life cycle of the cylinder heads, a high efficiency closed crankcase breathing system, and a high-altitude turbocharger coupled with a water-cooled wastegate.

In this case the remote radiator, silencer, and commissioning will come from GE distributor Waukesha-Pearce Industries. The order was received in September 2015, and the engine was shipped in March 2016, with installation in the summer of 2016 and site commissioning that fall.
