PistonFire II

Product catalog summary
Overview: The IEP Technologies PistonFire II Suppressor is a high-rate discharge suppressor designed to mitigate explosions in industrial settings. It consists of a pressurized suppressant storage cylinder and a valve body housed in a dust-ignition proof, weatherproof NEMA enclosure.
Specifications: The suppressor features a corrosion-resistant valve body made from stainless steel and aluminum, with a painted carbon steel spun cylinder. It includes a non-explosive PF Initiator and is ATEX and FM approved.
Advantages: Key benefits include non-explosive operation for increased safety, a five-year initiator service life, DOT approval for reduced installation time, compliance with NFPA 69, and a field-rechargeable design. It is suitable for hazardous locations (Class II, Div. I).
Operation: The suppressor is activated upon detection of an incipient explosion, releasing the suppressant within milliseconds. It includes a supervisory low-pressure switch for continuous monitoring and an OSHA lockout/tag-out provision for safe entry into protected vessels.
Applications: The PistonFire II is used in conjunction with IEP Technologies’ control panels and detectors to protect process vessels and interconnected ductwork from explosion propagation.
Dimensions and Models: The suppressor is available in three models: PFII-1000, PFII-2000, and PFII-3000, with varying dimensions and suppressant capacities.
Ordering Information: The document provides part numbers, descriptions, and weights for different models and accessories, including reconditioning and depressurization kits.
Contact Information: IEP Technologies provides contact details for various international locations, including Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, UK, USA, Latin America, China, and South East Asia.

PistonFire II-1

PistonFire II HIGH RATE DISCHARGE SUPPRESSOR PRODUCT INFORMATION SHEET Description The IEP Technologies PistonFire II Suppressor consists of a pressurized suppressant storage cylinder and a valve body that contains a dust-ignition proof, weatherproof NEMA enclosure. The NEMA enclosure houses the actuating mechanism, pressure switch, pressure gauge, fill valve, OSHA supervisory switch, and field wiring connections. The NEMA enclosure is completely sealed to ambient via screw cover and an explosion proof quick-disconnect connector for easy connection to field wiring. The OSHA supervisory switch prevents the arming of the explosion protection system when the OSHA lockout plate is installed. The OSHA lockout plate can be secured in place to the designated location on the PistonFire II housing. The pressure switch provides a trouble signal to the control panel if the suppressor pressure drops out of its proper operating pressure. Upon detection of an incipient explosion, the suppressor is sent an actuation signal. The actuating mechanism initiates the rapid release of the pressurized, suppressant into the protected area within milliseconds. Advantages • Non-explosive operation increases safety, and reduces storage, licensing, and transportation concerns. • Supervised, integral OSHA lockout/tagout provision promotes safe entry into protected vessels. • Up to five year initiator service life reduces maintenance costs. • Supervisory low pressure switch continuously monitors suppressor nitrogen pressure. • DOT approved, the suppressor is shipped fully pressurized, reducing installation time and cost. • Meets new stringent requirements of NFPA 69. • Corrosion resistant valve body • Innovative field-rechargeable design reduces service time, recharge costs and production downtime. • Designed for use in hazardous locations; Class II, Div. I. Application The IEP Technologies PistonFire II Suppressor is designed to discharge suppressant in milliseconds within a process vessel or to mitigate the propagation of flame through interconnected ductwork. It is used in conjunction with IEP Technologies’ range of control panels and detectors. IEP Technologies sophisticated computer modeling techniques determine the quantity and size of suppressors to be used. These techniques predict reduced explosion pressures based on actual process conditions and detector settings. 438EN-21.3
