How it works 1) The concave faces of the wedges move the blanket of sludge from the underside. 2) During their return movement the wedges slide their way under the blanket so as not to interrupt the sedimentation process, moving approximately twice as fast as during their forward movement. 3) Where the sludge has a low total solids content that no blanket is formed on the bottom of the tank, so that the scraper creates a constant flow of sludge towards the sludge pit, thickening it as it does so. 4) The stroke length is always longer than the gap between sections.
