Tandem Seal for Telescopic Cylinders TDT

Tandem Seal for Telescopic Cylinders TDT

Product catalog summary
Overview: The document provides detailed technical specifications and application guidelines for the Hunger Tandem Seal (TDT) designed for telescopic cylinders. It is suitable for use with mineral oils and compressed air.
Specifications: The TDT seal is made from polyurethane (PUR) and features two sealing lips that extend beyond the nominal diameter before installation. These lips ensure sealing even at zero pressure by pressing against the telescopic cylinder stages when installed.
Functionality: As pressure increases, the sealing lips are further compressed against the cylinder stages, creating an annular cavity that collects any seepage oil passing the first lip. This design ensures that the telescopic stages remain dry, and the collected oil is returned to the cylinder during the return stroke.
Design and Construction: The seal is compatible with a surface finish of Ra 0.1 - 0.3 µm, which minimizes friction and enhances sealing efficiency and longevity. When used with Hunger FI type bearings, it allows for a simple and compact construction for all telescopic cylinder stages.
Materials and Application Range: The seal is suitable for telescopic cylinders and cylinders with low installation spaces. It can withstand pressures up to 360 bar and temperatures ranging from -35°C to +100°C.
Installation Instructions: The seal should be bent into a kidney shape and inserted into the groove with the sealing lips facing the pressure direction.
Dimensions and Ordering: The document includes a comprehensive table of available dimensions and reference numbers for ordering. Further dimensions are available upon request.

Tandem Seal for Telescopic Cylinders TDT-1

The Hunger tandem seal type TDT is designed for use with telescopic cylinders. It can be used with mineral oils or compressed air. The TDT seal is manufactured in PUR and has two sealing lips on the inside. Prior to fitting, these lips protrude beyond the nominal diameter of the seal. Following installation, seal compression forces the lips against the telescopic cylinder stages, thereby providing a sealing function at zero pressure. Under increasing pressure and compression of the seal, the sealing lips are pressed against the telescopic cylinder stages. The sealing edge of the second lip produces an annular cavity, where any seepage oil that has passed the first lip is colleced. The seepage oil is held back by the sealing edge such that the emerging telescopic cylinder stages remain dry. During the return stroke, the collected oil is forced back into the cylinder. When combined with a surface finish of Ra 0.1 - 0.3 µm of the running surface, minimum friction levels are achieved with highly efficient sealing and a long service life. When used with the Hunger FI type bearings, a simple and compact construction is possible for all telescopic cylinder stages. 53
