GATE DIMENSIONS The correct gate dimensions are calculated by taking into consideration the molding material properties and flow capacity as shown in the three following diagrams. An elevated shear rate may result in polymer chain fracture and consequential deterioration of the plastic material properties. The highest shear rates in hot runner systems are found at the injection point zones. Therefore, correct gate dimensions are an essential element in system layout and configuration.
