Choosing the Correct MT Nozzle Series for Your Application 2.1 MT NOZZLE SERIES MT series This is the most common series and it covers a wide range of applications. It’s available in three sizes: MT22, MT29 and MT39. The MT22 is an integral nozzle design (for details, refer to the paragraph on page 3) while the MT29 and MT39 make use of nozzles with end rings. They are available in either through to the cavity or external versions. Thermal gate (MT22-29-39) and valve gate (MTV22-29-39) solutions are available in all three sizes. A dedicated series of gate inserts with conformal cooling...

Note: • flow rate values in brackets refer to nozzle lengths greater than 105mm, • values in the table above refer to polymers with average MFI and depend on many parameters (material type, gate diameter, application, etc...)

2.2 INTEGRAL NOZZLES AND END RINGS MultiTech offers two different systems to seal the nozzle on the cavity in order to cover a wide range of applications. Nozzle with end ring This is the most common solution, which consists of an end ring screwed in the nozzle. This end ring seals the cavity and tightens the tip to the nozzle. A low thermal conductivity material is intentionally used in the end ring to guarantee good thermal insulation between nozzle and cavity. This design allows the operator to have precise thermal control of the gate. Anti-stagnation rings are available as an optional...

MultiTech offers a wide range of tips and end rings to cover all applications. Four gating methods are available: free flow, torpedo, conical and cylindrical valve gating. The best choice depends on many technical variables among which the most important are the following: material to be molded, type of application, required gate quality and expected production volume. MultiTech offers each thermal gate tip (free flow and torpedo) in three different lengths: standard (defined “A0”) and extended by 5mm and 15mm (defined “A5” and “A15”). The longer the tip, the colder the gate and easier the...

FREE FLOW Free flow is commonly used when dimensional consistency of the parts is required and molded in stress reduction is desired. Compared with torpedo and valve gating, free flow is not affected by flow defects and therefore it is suitable for pearled and metalized materials. It’s commonly used for injection on cold sub runner as it reduces the pressure loss. This solution leaves a small gate vestige on the part and therefore it is not suitable when the good gate aesthetic is a requirement. Fast cycle applications suffer from stringing and drooling problems especially when critical...

MTVG cylindrical valve gating with integral nozzle MTVG gating (“VG” stands for “Guided Valve”) features a pin permanently guided by the tip and a reduced piston stroke. Therefore the pin is constantly well aligned with the gate that benefits a reduced worn-out. The traditional end ring is not used as the cavity sealing is performed by the nozzle. This feature avoids leakage risk in case of tip unscrewing. This is a tough and robust solution suitable to mould un-filled PP, HDPE, LDPE, PS with MFI greater than 10 g/10’. The anti-stagnation ring guarantees good color change performance....
