Overview
The Inova fluid bed, developed by Hitachi Zosen Inova, is a state-of-the-art combustion system designed for Energy-from-Biosolids applications. It is recognized for its cost-effectiveness and environmental soundness, setting a benchmark in combustion technology for biosolids and sludges.

Key Enhancements
The Inova fluid bed offers improved cost-effectiveness through optimized design and materials. Key advantages include uniform bed temperature, high turbulence, low excess air requirements, and reduced pollutant formation. The system features single refractory line vessels with no moving parts, minimizing maintenance and downtime.

Operational Reliability
The system is known for its durability and flexibility, accommodating a wide range of fuel heat inputs (5–150 MMBtu/hr) and moisture levels (60–80%). It supports steam production of up to 150,000 lb/hr and reactor sizes from 4 to 30 feet.

Technical Specifications
The fluidized bed operates as a solid-gas mixture, maintaining particle suspension and assuming fluid-like characteristics. It efficiently combusts wet fuels with low emissions, thanks to even temperature profiles that minimize pollutants like carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides.

Components
The reactor consists of four main components:

• Wind box zone: Ensures proper air distribution below the orifice plate.
• Orifice plate: Separates the wind box from the combustion zone, allowing air passage while restricting bed material flow.
• Combustion zone: Contains the fluidized bed where fuel is injected, typically using sand as bed material.
• Freeboard zone: Allows for combustion completion and separation of bed material and gases.

Applications
The Inova fluid bed is suitable for various industries, including municipal or industrial sewage sludges, paper mill waste, and petrochemical waste sludges. It is effective for the thermal treatment of low heating value fuels and can meet current emission regulations with additional air pollution control equipment.
