Grate Combustion Technology

Product catalog summary
Introduction
The Inova Grate represents a new standard in combustion technology, designed by Hitachi Zosen Inova for energy-from-waste applications. It emphasizes cost-effectiveness and environmental soundness, setting a benchmark in the industry.
Key Enhancements
  • Optimized design and improved materials enhance service life, availability, and maintenance.
  • Longer grate bars improve space utilization and access to moving parts.
  • Reduced inclination angle lowers construction costs.
  • Smart assembly procedures facilitate easier overhaul work.
Operational Reliability
The Inova Grate ensures reliable operation with a four-zone grate system that allows separate control of drying, ignition, combustion, and burnout processes. Adjustments in airflows and grate motion accommodate process fluctuations, ensuring excellent waste burnout.
Configurations for Optimized Burnout
The grate is customizable to handle different calorific values, ensuring excellent combustion control and burnout quality. Three configurations cater to varying fuel qualities, maintaining homogeneous combustion and optimized burnout.
Combustion Control
Individually controllable ram feeders maintain consistent fuel bed thickness, ensuring stable combustion and long grate service life. The system optimizes interactions between various elements to guarantee smooth operation, uniform temperature profiles, low NOx generation, and excellent bottom ash quality.
Cooling Options
The grate offers flexible cooling options, either air-cooled or combined water/air cooling, to optimize operating costs and extend service life based on calorific values.
Conclusion
The Inova Grate is a future-oriented, high-performance combustion system that meets diverse energy-from-waste requirements with its innovative design and operational flexibility.

Three configurations for optimised burnout The basic variant for calorific values between approx. 8 and 14 MJ/kg consists of three grate zones with an inclination of 10°, followed by a drop-off at the end of the third zone, and a horizontal burnout zone. 1 If calorific values are low, ranging from 4.5 to 11 MJ/kg, a further drop-off between zones 1 and 2 promotes drying and timely ignition. 2 For high calorific values between 10 and 18 MJ/kg, typically found in Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF), the Inova grate is built with a full-length inclination of 10°, without drop-offs. 3 Excellent burnout quality...
