Project Overview
The Energy-from-Biosolids plant in St. Paul, MN, operated by the Metropolitan Council Environmental Services, is an award-winning facility that sets the standard for energy-from-biosolids facilities in the US. The plant processes an average of 190 million gallons of wastewater daily and features advanced thermal treatment and air pollution control equipment. The facility includes Inova fluid bed reactors and air pollution control systems, which began operation in late 2004. These systems have significantly reduced air pollutants and natural gas usage compared to previous technologies.
Environmental Impact
The plant's air pollution control systems have reduced air pollutants by over 95% compared to the previous multiple hearth furnaces. The facility also reduced natural gas usage by more than 80%.
