The heat exchanger plays an important role in the solvent recovery process, where methanol is used as a medium, like acetone or other organic substances. After undergoing several chemical reactions, methanol is recycled and prepared for reuse. Open the catalog to page 3DETAILED APPLICATION DESCRIPTION SHIELD is placed close to the flash vessel due to limited pressure availability. The superheated methanol vapor at absolute pressure of 0.1 bar is sucked in by the vacuum pump and flows into the heat exchanger. The superheated vapor has a temperature higher than the boiling point of methanol at this pressure condition. The methanol vapor flows through the shell side of the exchanger and goes around the chilled water from the cooling tower which is running through the channels of the plate pack. The chilled water, which absorbs heat from the methanol vapor, warms up during this process and is then pumped back to the cooling tower, where it is re-cooled to return to the heat exchanger to repeat the cycle.
