Principle of the Scratch Test
The scratch test involves a diamond-tip indenter drawn across a sample at a constant speed. The test simulates real-life stresses on coatings, with results depending on indenter shape, scratch length, and test force. The critical load (LC) is the force at which the coating fails, indicated by cracks and chipping.

Testing Capabilities
The ST 200 can handle test loads from 0.5 to 200 N, making it ideal for hard coatings and thicker paint layers. It is applicable to various fields, including cutting tools, engine parts, dental prostheses, artificial joints, decorative coatings, and car paint.

Operation and Evaluation
The device features a powerful microscope for automatic detection and evaluation of scratches. It measures tangential force, penetration depth, and acoustic emissions, with real-time evaluation using WinSCU® software. The system is user-friendly, requiring minimal sample preparation and connecting easily to computers via USB.
