Air Pressure Amplifier

Product catalog summary
Introduction to Haskel Air Amplifiers
An Air Pressure Amplifier increases the pressure of incoming compressed air using a differential area piston assembly. It operates without air line lubrication due to unique seal technology and stalls at maximum outlet pressure, resuming cycling when a pressure drop is detected.
Key Features
  • Long seal life and easy maintenance
  • No risk of heat, flame, or spark
  • Wide range of models and options
  • No air line lubrication required
  • Variable outlet pressure and flow capability
  • Control of maximum pressure via air drive pressure regulators
Applications and Sizing
Suitable for various industrial applications, proper sizing considers outlet pressure, air drive pressure, supply pressure, and required flow. Application data such as duty cycle and high-pressure requirements are crucial.
Operation Guidelines
For high outlet pressure applications, consider the moisture content in compressed air to avoid maintenance issues. Dry gases like nitrogen are recommended for high-pressure sections. Manage cycling rate and operation in unloaded conditions to prevent excessive wear.
Cycle Rates and Performance
Maximum outlet flow and cycling speed are determined by performance curves. Continuous duty applications should derate cycling speed to extend seal life. Multiple units can be used in parallel to meet flow requirements.
Model Selection and Performance Curves
Variable pressure and flow capabilities are offered. Performance curves help determine the appropriate model based on outlet pressure and flow requirements. The amplifiers automatically cycle to maintain pressure when a drop is detected.
Optional Modifications
Modifications include air controls, stroke counters, and extreme service cycling options, enhancing functionality and adaptability for specific applications.
Standard Vertical Air Amplifier Systems
These systems provide amplified pressure and high flow, utilizing plant air to fill storage tanks and automatically stall at set pressures. They include safety features like ASME coded relief valves.
Specifications
Specifications for various air pilot switches and air pressure amplifiers are outlined. The MA-1 model operates within a 50-180 psi range, and the AAD-2-MA-1 model is set at 70 psi. The AAD-5 model offers good maximum pressure control up to 200 psi, with options for ASME receivers.
Procedures
Instructions for specifying normally closed and open air pilot switches are provided, detailing the use of model numbers and optional modifications for different applications.
Standards and Options
Semi-standard air controls are available for the AAD-2 model, with optional factory-installed controls. Any model can be converted to cycle with external pilot air.
Recommendations
Recommendations include specifying certain model numbers for desired performance and using optional modifications for enhanced functionality.
Key Data from Schematics and Charts
Schematics for standard modifications show air inlet and outlet specifications with maximum pressures. Optional modifications are listed with corresponding numbers and descriptions.

Sizing Air Amplifiers Several factors are involved in the proper sizing of Haskel air amplifiers. Some involve the specific parameters of the applicaƟon while some involve the applicaƟon itself. Specific parameters include: • What is the outlet pressure required (Po)? • What is the minimum available air drive pressure (Pa)? • What is the available air drive flow (Qa)? • What is the supply pressure (Ps)? (In most cases, Pa = Ps) • What is the required flow (Q) at the outlet pressure? More than one amplifier may be required: in certain high flow or heavy duty applicaƟons two or more amplifiers can be used...

Model Selection Chart Max Air Drive PSIG (BAR) RaƟo Max Inlet PSIG Max Outlet (BAR) PSIG (BAR) Using Performance Curves All Haskel air amplifiers are variable pressure, variable flow devices within the limits of their sizes and raƟos. Outlet pressure can be controlled by regulaƟng the air drive and/or air supply pressure (depending on model) while outlet flow can be controlled by adjusƟng the air flow to the drive piston with a corresponding change in cycle rate. The curves are easily read by comparing the required outlet pressure with the (available) air drive/supply curve and meeƟng the corresponding...

Amplifier Systems A complete pneumatic system designed to provide amplified pressure and momentary high flow. Vertical receiver reduces footprint, saving floor space. Utilizes available plant air (up to 95 psi) to both the supply and drive inlets which automatically stalls once the storage tank has been filled to about double the supply pressure. The amplifier will sense any use of air from the tank, and resume operation again to stall at about 5 times supply pressure. The regulator on the tank output is provided to control the output pressure and flow, up to about (momentarily) 150 scfm. Also...
