Series 20210 Type: 1413

Product catalog summary
Overview: The document provides technical specifications for the Polyplast 30 Countersunk Head screws, specifically designed for use in plastic materials. These screws are identified by part numbers that include a drive code and length, which must be specified to select the exact part required.
Specifications: The screws are available in various diameters ranging from 1.8 mm to 7.0 mm, with corresponding head diameters and other dimensions detailed in a tabular format. Key dimensions include the diameter of the screw (d1), the core diameter (d2), the pitch (p), and the head diameter (D). The table also specifies the minimum and maximum dimensions for the PH and PZ drive widths and thicknesses.
Design Features: The screws feature a 30-degree flank angle and a recessed core diameter. These design elements are intended to reduce radial forces and stresses when engaging with plastic, minimizing hoop stresses compared to conventional screws. The recessed core geometry aids in directing the flow of displaced plastic, ensuring a uniform fill of the screw pitch and maximizing plastic engagement for higher shear loads.
Performance Benefits: The design reduces the torque required to drive the screw, increasing the margin between drive torque and stripping torque, thus minimizing the risk of stripping during installation. The optimal pitch and recessed core design enhance resistance to pullout loads by ensuring a large area of plastic is sheared before screw failure.
Recommendations: The document advises that all information is for guidance only, and designers should verify the suitability of the specifications by requesting samples.

The 30 deg. Flank angle and recessed core diameter of these thread forming screws for plastic have been developed following theoretical appraisal, exhaustive calculations and final proof testing. The 30 deg. Flank angle produces low radial forces when engaging the plastic, therefore resulting in less radial stresses and tension. In other words the hoop stresses in the plastic bosses are less than those experienced with conventional screws. The recessed core geometry provides the ideal flow director for the displaced plastic, encouraging a uniform flow to fill the pitch of the screw without material jamming. This results in the maximum amount of plastic being engaged to provide higher sheer loads, due to the increased bearing depth of the thread. A combination of the above and the ease of penetration of the 30 deg. Flank angle through the material and the way in which the plastic flows, reduces the torque required to drive the screw in. This fact therefore increases the margin between drive torque and stripping torque which of course minimises the potential of stripping during installation. The optimum pitch and maximum fill features provided by the recessed core results in a large area of plastic to be sheered prior to screw failure in tension. This creates a high resistance to pullout loads. All information is given for guidance only and designers should satisfy themselves as to the suitability of the specification by requesting samples
