Cable-Laying Pulley

Cable-Laying Pulley

Product catalog summary
Introduction
Harken Cable-Laying Pulleys are designed for oceanographic research vessels to safely deploy cables and instruments. They are optimized for fiber-optic cables with large bend radii, featuring lightweight and strong materials for efficient cable tracking.
Uses
The pulleys, specifically models C6989, C8355, and C9417, are suitable for oceanographic cables, including fiber-optic types, and are built to withstand corrosive marine environments.
Features
These pulleys incorporate Delrin® roller bearings for low-friction efficiency and Torlon® ball bearings for handling side loads. The design includes a large center hole for better alignment and a wide throat for wire terminals. They also support line counter instrumentation.
Materials
The pulleys are constructed with UV-stabilized 6061 aluminum sideplates, Hardkote-anodized for protection, and Teflon®-impregnated for a smooth surface. Helicoils® and isolating materials minimize corrosion between aluminum and stainless steel components. The sheave is made from durable Nylatron® material, known for its mechanical strength, stiffness, and wear resistance.
Options
Pulleys are available in 500 mm and 750 mm sheave diameters and can be customized to meet specific requirements.
Maintenance
Regular flushing with fresh water is recommended to maintain the self-lubricating bearings. Disassembly requires only an Allen wrench, and all bearings are captive to prevent loss.
Specifications
  • C6989: 508 mm sheave, 8 mm cable, 19.3 kg weight, 4535 kg max working load, 9091 kg breaking load.
  • C8355: 508 mm sheave, 10 mm cable, 19.3 kg weight, 4535 kg max working load, 9091 kg breaking load.
  • C9417: 750 mm sheave, 19 mm cable, 65.1 kg weight, 9070 kg max working load, 18182 kg breaking load.
Warnings and Instructions
Users must read and follow all warnings and instructions in the User Manual to avoid accidents. Never exceed the maximum rated load.

Cable-Laying Pulley-1

I n d u s t r i a l P U L L E Y S Y ST E M S Cable-Laying Pulleys (Blocks) Harken Cable-Laying Pulleys are being used by oceanographic research vessels to safely lead cable overboard and to deploy instruments. Because fiber-optic cable has a large bend radius, Harken Cable-Laying Pulleys have diameters to suit. The aluminum sideplates and Nylatron® selflubricating sheave materials are very lightweight and strong, optimizing cable tracking. Uses The sheave’s durable, lightweight Nylatron® material has high mechanical strength and stiffness, resists static electricity, and has excellent wear resistance. Harken C6989, C8355, and C9417 pulleys are used for oceanographic cable, including fiber-optic; designed to withstand corrosive marine environments. The sheave’s wide diameter and Nylatron’s® exceptional self-lubricating and wear characteristics deliver cable without damage. FEATURES Delrin® roller bearings are housed in a center cage to keep them parallel for low-friction efficiency. Captive Torlon® ball bearings handle side loads. OPTIONS The pulley’s large center hole moves the center of gravity toward the shackle, improving the pulley’s ability to align with the cable under tow. The pulley’s wide throat allows passage of wire terminals. MATERIALS One Allen wrench is the only tool needed to disassemble the pulley. UV-stabilized 6061 aluminum sideplates are deep-saturation, Hardkote-anodized for maximum protection; Teflon®-impregnated for a smooth, slippery surface. All bearings are captive so there is no worry about losing parts. The use of Helicoils® and isolating materials between aluminum and stainless steel components minimizes corrosion.
