MB Series Tension Sensors

Product catalog summary
Overview: The document provides technical details about the MB Series Tension Sensors, which utilize LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer) technology to convert web tension into a proportional electrical signal. These sensors are designed to withstand high overloads without damage or loss of calibration.
Functionality: As web tension increases, the resultant force causes the load plate to rotate around a pivot point, resisted by a torsion bar. The movement of the core within the LVDT coil varies the output signal proportionally to the force. The mechanical structure allows the sensors to handle overloads up to 100 times without structural failure.
Features: The sensors are extremely accurate, can be mounted at any angle, and are suitable for various web path angles. They require no calibration or maintenance and can handle extreme overloads without damage.
Specifications: The LVDT housing includes a high-frequency oscillator for linearity and a thermal compensating circuit to prevent thermal drift. Standard and optional cable lengths are provided for flexibility in installation.
Installation and Mounting: The document outlines various sensor configurations such as bilateral, narrow web, wire or filament, unilateral, and cantilevered rolls. It provides detailed guidelines for mounting, emphasizing the importance of flatness, parallel mounting surfaces, and proper sensor roll span to avoid measurement errors.
Sensor Sizing: Sensor sizing depends on the force created by web tension and the tare weight of the sensing roll and bearings. Calculations for load range and tare per sensor are provided, with a warning about reduced tare capacity when mounted vertically or at an angle.
Additional Components: Hardy Instruments offers additional components like tension controllers, load cells, and pneumatic brakes to complete the tension control system.
Contact Information: For further information or assistance, contact details for Hardy Instruments are provided, including phone numbers and a website link.

MB Series Tension Sensors-4

Narrow Web - Useful on narrow webmachines. Should not be used where roll face exceeds six inches. > Load range per sensor (see spec. chartnext page ) is F divided by the number of points supporting the load, i.e. two support points in bilateral, Unilateral or Cantilevered configuration, or one support point in Narrow Web or Wire and Filament configuration. Tare per sensor (see spec. chart next page) is calculated the same way. The tare per sensor is the total weight of the sensorroll and the bearings divided by thenumber of support points. Two factors affect Sensor Sizing. Thesensor must be able...

MB Series Tension Sensors-5

Sensor Mounting > Mounting dimensions for the five frame sizes aregiven on previous pages. Sensors may be mounted at any angle (see Figures A-D). All sensors include a 16 ft. (5M) cable which may beextended with 18 AWG 4 conductor shielded cable to as long as 500 ft. (152M). Presized, Extension Cables are also available. All sensors must be mounted according to the following guidelines:1.Flatness must be 0.002 (0.05 mm) over thelength of the sensor. This can be achieved by milling of the mounting surface. NOTE: Any shimming required for sensor roll levelingmust be done b etween sensor and pillow...
