Specifications
The Gurley Model V860H is a high-performance optical encoder designed for quasi-military applications, such as radar pedestals and tracking mounts. It combines incremental and absolute encoder features. Key specifications include a maximum resolution of 1,048,576 steps per revolution, natural binary absolute output, ±1.5 arc accuracy, a maximum operating speed of 120°/s, an operating temperature range of -40 to +185°F (-40 to +85°C), and IP64 sealing.
Theory of Operation
The encoder uses optical encoding with incremental and index code tracks. Absolute position is determined by decoding quadrature states per optical cycle, with a unique index track for simplified alignment. A 14-bit sequence ensures unique cycle identification.
Operating Modes
The encoder operates in three modes: Wait Mode for fault conditions, Search Mode for acquiring absolute position, and Track Mode for reliable position information. Faults can be cleared by re-initialization.
Electrical Connections
The encoder uses a DA-15P connector for power and a DC-37P connector for data. It requires a +12VDC power supply, internally regulated to +5VDC. The data interface includes parity and status outputs with fault detection for error reporting.
Coupling and Installation
The encoder includes a precision flexible metal bellows assembly to compensate for misalignments. Installation constraints are a maximum parallel offset of 0.012 inches, axial extension/compression of 0.336 inches, and angular misalignment of 7 degrees, ensuring accuracy and longevity.
Additional Specifications
Resolution is 16384 lines, with a parallel natural binary output format and 6-bit internal interpolation. The standard configuration includes a 48-inch cable length with top-exit, DA-15P (power) and DC-37P (data) connectors, and a 2.5-inch shaft diameter. Operating temperature range is -40°C to +85°C.
Accessories
Includes DX00432 bellows-type shaft coupling, ordered separately.
Special Capabilities
Customizable encoders are available for higher frequency response, greater accuracy, wider temperature range, reduced torque, non-standard line counts, or other modifications. Custom designs cater to specific user requirements, including high-volume, low-cost commercial applications and high-performance, high-reliability conditions for military and aerospace.
Warranty
Gurley Precision Instruments offers a limited warranty against defects in material and workmanship for one year from the date of shipment.
