Gurley Series 9x20 Rotary Incremental Encoder

Gurley Series 9x20 Rotary Incremental Encoder

Product catalog summary
Overview: The document provides detailed specifications and features of the Gurley Series 9x20 Rotary Incremental Encoder, designed for industrial applications requiring high resolution and accuracy.
Specifications: The encoder offers a maximum resolution of 144,000 counts per revolution, equating to 9 arcseconds. It is available in two models, 9120 and 9220, with various mechanical configurations. Key features include LED illumination for long life, differential photo-detectors for signal stability, and RS-422 differential line driver output for noise immunity. The encoder is sealed to IP66 standards, with IP64 at the shaft exit, and uses sealed bearings for contamination resistance.
Error Analysis: The total optical encoder error is the sum of instrument error, quadrature error, and interpolation error. Instrument error arises from mechanical imperfections, quadrature error from signal phasing and duty cycle tolerances, and interpolation error from electronic interpolation circuitry.
Performance Parameters: The encoder supports resolutions up to 4500 cycles/rev and internally interpolated resolutions up to 36,000 cycles/rev. It operates within a temperature range of 32 to 158°F (0 to 70°C) and can withstand shock up to 50 g and vibration up to 15 g.
Electrical Connections: The encoder uses EIA/RS-422 balanced differential line drivers and offers various index options. The 9220 model includes a watchdog circuit for fault detection, providing advance warning of performance degradation.
Mechanical Dimensions: Detailed dimensions and shaft coupling options are provided for different configurations, including solid and blind hollow shaft versions.
Special Capabilities: Gurley Precision Instruments offers customization for specific requirements, including higher frequency response, greater accuracy, and wider temperature ranges.
Warranty and Ordering Information: The encoder comes with a one-year warranty against defects. Ordering information includes model, shaft type, line count, index format, input voltage, interpolation factor, base type, cable length, and connector options.

1. Total Optical Encoder Error is the algebraic sum of Instrument Error + Quadrature Error + Interpolation Error. Typically, these error sources sum to a value less than the theoretical maximum. Error is guaranteed at 20°C and is defined at the signal transitions. It does not include quantization error, which is ±1/2 quantum. ("Quantum" is the final resolution of the encoder, after user's 4X quadrature decode.) 2. Instrument Error is the sum of disc pattern errors, disc eccentricity, bearing runout and other mechanical imperfections within the encoder. This error tends to vary slowly around a...
