ESE SEAL

ESE SEAL

ESE SEAL

Product catalog summary
Overview: The document introduces Greene, Tweed's ESE (Elastomeric Spring Energized) seal, designed for dynamic tandem systems, particularly as a primary rod seal. It highlights the seal's self-venting design, low friction, and wide operational temperature range.
Specifications: The ESE seal features a PTFE jacket, elastomeric energizer, and a high modulus back-up ring. It is suitable for temperatures ranging from -65°F to 450°F (-54°C to 232°C), depending on material selection. The seal is compatible with AS4716 configurations.
Features & Benefits: The seal's unidirectional, self-venting design enhances performance. It includes a resilient Avalon jacket and an anti-extrusion back-up ring, ensuring stability and preventing extrusion. The seal is easy to install and maintain.
Applications: The ESE seal is used in primary and secondary flight control actuators, tandem rod configurations, and utility actuators.
Configuration & Part Numbering: The document provides a detailed part numbering system, including material designators for jackets and back-up rings. It specifies standard and nonstandard configurations and materials like NBR, FVMQ, FKM, EPM, and EPDM for elastomer compounds.
Contact Information: Greene, Tweed & Co. provides contact details for further inquiries and engineering support.

ESE SEAL-1

123 ESE SEAL (ELASTOMERIC SPRING ENERGIZED) Superior Performance in Tandem Systems E S E SELF-VENTING DESIGN Generally used as a primary rod seal in dynamic tandem systems, Greene, Tweed’s new ESE design is available for use in either one or two back-up gland widths. The ESE provides superior performance in tandem seal applications. Its unidirectional, “self-venting” design is complemented with a high modulus back-up ring that is installable into “closed-groove” configurations for [MSE®] types). Along with the “self-venting” capability, the ESE design offers low operating friction along a wide operational temperature range. APPLICATIONS The seal assembly itself consists of an extremely durable, PTFE ring. In order to help optimize seal life, Greene, Tweed recommends • Primary and secondary flight control actuators (rudder, aileron, stabilizer, flaps, etc.) the use of our high-performance Avalon® PTFE materials. The • Tandem, “closed-groove” rod configurations combination of a thermoplastic Avalon jacket with one of our • Utility actuators jacket with an elastomeric energizer and high modulus back-up most sizes (unlike that of many standard, metal-spring-energized specially formulated, elastomeric O-ring energizers delivers enhanced performance over a wide temperature range. Generally this range extends from -65°F to 450°F (-54°C to 232°C) depending on materials selected. Greene, Tweed’s ESE also features a high ESE with Back-up Ring strength back-up ring to provide additional stability in the gland and help prevent any possibility of extrusion. FEATURES & BENEFITS • Resilient Avalon jacket coupled with a durable elastomeric energizer plus anti-extrusion back-up ring for enhanced performance over a wide temperature range • Installable into most existing AS4716 configurations for ease of maintenance Note: Dimensions as specified in AS4716. © 2007, Greene, Tweed all rights reserved All trademarks are property of their respective owners. 04/07-GT DS-US-AS-003
