Product catalog summary

1. Spindle Interface Types and Dimensions

This section details four main spindle interface series: TSA, TSI, TSP, and TSAV. Each series includes multiple models with specific dimensional parameters such as lengths, diameters, and flange sizes. Maximum spindle speeds vary by model and bearing type, ranging from 1,000 rpm (TSAV) up to 80,000 rpm (TSA). The TSAV series is notable for solid and spring preloaded bearings and includes speed limits for sliding seals.

2. Taper Specifications

All spindle interfaces utilize a nominal taper ratio of 1:7.5 with an included angle near 3°49' to 3°50', conforming to GMN precision standards. Specific taper angles are provided per interface type and size to ensure compatibility and precision fit.

3. Flange Styles and Grinding Wheel Compatibility

Two main flange styles are described: MO and MS for Interface A, and multiple flange figures for Interface V. Each flange type includes detailed dimensional data and maximum permissible grinding wheel speeds, which depend on interface size and cutting speed. Grinding wheel speeds range from 1,100 rpm to 27,000 rpm, corresponding to cutting speeds up to 35 m/s.

4. Spindle Interface Dimensions and Finishing

Key dimensions such as K, T, L, S, O, and Hmax are specified for interfaces A, I, and D. The document clarifies which surfaces are finished by GMN and which require customer finishing, ensuring proper assembly and performance.

5. Speed and Load Capacities

  • Maximum spindle speeds vary by interface, size, and bearing type (steel or hybrid), with detailed tables provided.
  • Cutting speeds and spindle surface speeds are tabulated for various wheel diameters and spindle speeds, facilitating correct operational parameters.
  • Quill stiffness values (in N/µm) are given for different grinding quill diameters and lengths, important for precision grinding applications.
  • Load capacities include axial and radial forces, with TSA models supporting up to 540 N axial and 113 N radial loads for larger sizes.

6. Balancing and Vibration Monitoring

The document includes information on balancing screws and weights, as well as vibration sensor configurations. Diagrams illustrate sensor placement, cable lengths, and transmitter components, supporting effective vibration monitoring and spindle health management.

7. Additional Notes

  • Speed limits for sliding seals in TSAV models decrease with increasing spindle size.
  • Formulas for calculating cutting speed (vc) based on wheel diameter and spindle speed are provided for operational accuracy.
  • Details on spindle nose interfaces include dimensions and maximum speeds for various grinding quill diameters.

8. Spindle Load Capacities and Stiffness

This section presents detailed axial and radial load capacities and stiffness values for TSA, TSI/TSP, and TSAV series:

  • TSA Series: Radial load capacity charts versus spindle speed (10 to 100,000 rpm) for sizes 20 to 100.
  • TSI/TSP Series: Axial and radial load capacities and stiffness differ by direction (A and B), with axial loads ranging from 150 N to 540 N depending on size.
  • TSAV Series: Axial load capacities range from 300 N (size 40) to 6,000 N (size 200), with radial stiffness up to 342 N/µm. Axial stiffness and load capacities are equal in directions A and B.

9. Load Capacity vs. Speed

Graphs illustrate that both axial and radial load capacities decrease as spindle speed increases, covering speeds from 10 rpm to 100,000 rpm. This highlights the importance of considering speed when applying loads to ensure spindle integrity.

10. Residual Unbalance and Vibration Levels

  • Permissible residual unbalance values (g·mm) decrease with increasing operating speed to minimize vibration risks.
  • Vibration levels for grease-lubricated spindles are charted, showing critical speeds and maximum operating speeds with and without tools.
  • Standardized measurement distances for vibration are set at five times the taper diameter, with a maximum of 100 mm (3.937 inches), ensuring consistent monitoring.

11. Geometrical and Operational Recommendations

  • Geometrical conditions for spindle design include relationships between diameters (P, E, G) to maintain balance and operational stability.
  • Formulas such as P ≥ 1/3 E and (P-G)/2 ≥ 1/6 (E-G)/2 are provided to guide proper spindle geometry.

12. Critical Information and Best Practices

  • Load capacities and stiffness must be evaluated relative to spindle speed and load direction to prevent damage.
  • Adhering to residual unbalance limits is essential to avoid excessive vibration and extend spindle life.
  • Standardized vibration and unbalance measurement protocols support quality control and maintenance.
  • Use of grease lubrication and compliance with maximum operating speeds are recommended to maintain optimal spindle performance.

Summary

This document is a comprehensive technical reference for spindle interfaces used in grinding applications. It provides precise dimensional data, taper standards, speed and load limitations, flange compatibility, and balancing guidelines. The information supports the selection, specification, and safe operation of high-speed spindles, ensuring performance reliability and longevity in precision machining environments.

Bearing preload TSAV and TSEV spindle styles have a solid bearing arrangement as opposed to the other belt driven designs which are spring preloaded. The solid bearing mounting provides for higher spindle stiffness and load carrying capacity at maximum spindle speed. This arrangement limits the spindle speed in comparison to the same bearing bore sizes used in theTSA,TSI,TSP and TSE spindles. Another advantage is low axial shaft movement, which is required for face grinding. Higher speeds are available, but with reduced preload. Hollow shaft Hollow shaft is an option for allowing low pressure...
