Product catalog summary
Introduction
The GLOBE Vane Air Motor models VA10J&X, VS10C, and VA10C are designed for hazardous environments and are ATEX certified. This manual provides safety instructions, installation guidelines, and maintenance procedures to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety standards.
ATEX Certification
The motors are certified under EN-ISO80079-36:2016 and EN-ISO80079-37:2016. Key EX markings include:
  • Equipment group II for above-ground use
  • Category 2G for Zone 1 or 2
  • Category 2D for Zone 21 or 22
  • Temperature class T4 with a maximum surface temperature of 135°C
  • Ambient temperature range: -20°C to +60°C
Warranty and Safety
The warranty covers manufacturing defects if guidelines are followed. Unauthorized repairs void the warranty. Safety precautions include wearing eye and hearing protection and ensuring proper grounding to prevent electrostatic hazards.
Installation Guidelines
Proper installation is crucial for performance and safety. Key points include:
  • Mounting the motor with minimal axial and radial loads
  • Using appropriate fasteners and grounding the motor
  • Ensuring air supply from non-hazardous areas with a 64 µm filter
  • Installing a lubricator and pressure regulator in the airline
Operation and Maintenance
Operational guidelines emphasize:
  • Maintaining recommended speeds and loads
  • Regularly checking and cleaning filters and lubricators
  • Monitoring for unusual sounds or vibrations
  • Using air dryers to prevent moisture-related issues
Maintenance includes regular inspection and cleaning to prevent dust accumulation and ensure safe operation.
Performance Regulation
Air flow regulation is recommended for controlling motor speed without losing torque. This involves using throttling devices to maintain consistent performance under varying loads.
Throttling Methods
1. Exhaust Air Throttling: Allows constant regulation of rotational speed in lower ranges but is less optimal for durability and air consumption.
2. Supply Air Throttling: Offers better durability and air consumption, regulating performance through inlet pressure and flow rate adjustments.
Regulation Techniques
1. Pressure Regulation: Adjusts output power by decreasing supply pressure, reducing torque and power proportionally.
2. Air Flow Regulation: Can be combined with pressure regulation for optimal power and speed control.
Maintenance and Safety
- Wear eye protection due to potential hazards from air streams.
- Ensure maintenance by certified staff and use proper service kits.
- Regularly check and clean intake filters and silencers.
- Follow specific procedures for shutdown and long storage to prevent damage.
- Adhere to ATEX compliance by changing motor bearings as required.
Hazards and Protective Measures

Vane Motor Maintenance
- Maintain precise tolerances for efficient operation.
- Use color-coded shims for correct rotor spacing.
- Ensure all parts are clean and adequately lubricated.
- Use genuine replacement blades for optimal performance.
Troubleshooting
- Address issues like low speed, torque, or overheating by inspecting for dirt, rust, or inadequate air pressure.
- Ensure proper air flow and proximity of air source to the motor.
Technical Specifications
- Maximum temperature range: -20°C to +60°C.
- Motor is reversible with a maximum overhung force on the shaft of 1750 N.

With the regulation of the inlet pressure and the flow rate, the performance can be adapted to the individual application. This is done by pressure or air flow regulation or a combination of both. The compressibility of the air generates a dampening effect in all ranges. This allows that the motor also can be started, while it is loaded. With a load reduction, the motor reacts immediately with an increase in speed. With pressure regulation the output power can be adjusted. When the supply pressure is decreased, the torque and power is reduced proportionally and the torque curve becomes flatter....
