TAN + BN Test Kit Portable Mini-Lab for testing Motor Lubricants Excellent correlation with ASTM-D2896 (BN) and ASTM D974 (AN) standards The GESERCO TAN + BN Test Kit is a true portable lubricant analysis mini laboratory. The TAN + BN Test Kit is a stand-alone solution designed for monitoring on the operation site two main characteristics of the lubricant: • • The lubricant acid index (TAN) The lubricant alkaline reserve (BN) The tests are simple and rapid, and the kit includes a detailed testing and interpretation guide so that the engineer can make immediate decisions for maintaining the lubricated equipment and increasing its lifespan. Acid lubricants are the source of numerous potential machinery failures through: • Corroding of metallic components • Gumming and clamping of lubricated parts • Production of glaze and sludge in the circuitry The alkaline reserve (Base Number – BN) formulated into engine oils neutralizes the acids produced by the combustion of fuels containing sulfur that could damage the engine. In service, the BN of the engine oil falls from its original value until it reaches a minimum acceptable level (typically 50% of original value). The GESERCO TAN test allows for precisely, simply and quickly monitoring and calculating the TAN value in mg kOH/g at the operation site of the lubricated equipment.
