Product catalog summary
Overview of novaphit® Gaskets with XP Technology
Introduction: The document discusses the advanced features of novaphit® graphite gaskets enhanced with XP technology, which involves inorganic deep passivation using nanotechnology to improve efficiency.
Key Advantages:
  • Non-Stick Properties: XP technology provides long-term, temperature-resistant, non-stick properties, preventing graphite from adhering to sealing surfaces even at temperatures above 200°C. This is a significant improvement over conventional organic non-stick coatings, which decompose at high temperatures.
  • Economic Benefits: The technology facilitates easy replacement of gaskets without residue, reducing the need for mechanical cleaning and enhancing process reliability.
  • Oxidation Resistance: XP technology significantly improves the oxidation resistance of graphite, delaying mass loss due to oxidation and extending the service life of the gaskets.
Technical Specifications:
  • XP technology increases the temperature threshold for oxidation mass loss by 150°C, as demonstrated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).
  • Products available with XP finishing include novaphit® SSTC, SSTCTA-L, and MST, all of which comply with German TA Luft air pollution regulations.
  • The sealing parameters conform to DIN EN 13 555 standards.
Conclusion: novaphit® gaskets with XP technology offer enhanced performance through improved non-stick and oxidation-resistant properties, leading to longer service life and reduced emissions.

novaphit ® with XP technology-1

Expanded metal graphite gaskets with Extended Performance Technology The high-quality graphite gaskets novaphit® SSTC, SSTCTA-L and MST can be finished with XP technology as an additional option. What is involved here is inorganic deep passivation of the pure graphite on the basis of nanotechnology, with which efficiency is increased substantially. Deposits of standard graphite gaskets on the flange No residue when novaphit® gaskets with XP technology are replaced Advantage 1 – long-term, temperature-resistant, non-stick properties required. The long-term, temperature-resistant, nonstick properties enable gaskets to be replaced without leaving any residue even on bare sealing surfaces. This represents an impressive improvement in the performance of graphite gaskets. For the first time, the XP finishing stops the graphite from adhering to the sealing surface at temperatures above 200°C too. Conventional non-stick coatings are normally based on organic substances (e.g. resins), that impregnate the surface of the graphite when the right amounts are chosen. Due to the media and temperature resistance restrictions (decomposition of organic components at temperatures over 200°C), the effectiveness of these organic non-stick coatings is limited. The non-stick finishing of novaphit® with XP technology, on the other hand, is fully effective over the entire application temperature range of a graphite gasket and in connection with the typical media for which sealing is GASKETS TECHNICAL TEXTILES EXPANSION JOINTS INSULATION NEW MATERIALS The XP technology leads to tremendous economic benefits. Tongue-and-groove flange connections are a particularly tough challenge, when the residue of old gaskets needs to be removed. Investigations carried out by plant operators also show that it is not unusual for leakage problems to be attributable to incomplete removal of old gaskets. In this respect, the use of XP technology is a major contribution to process reliability. The sealing surfaces are protected at the same time, so that they remain intact for a longer period of time.

With the XP technology, it is in addition possible to improve the oxidation resistance of the graphite significantly. High-quality graphite gaskets from the novaphit® family have a number of strengths. Accelerated by high temperatures and the effects of oxygen, the graphite has a fundamental tendency to oxidise, however, so that the seal is weakened by the mass loss associated with this. The maximum application temperature is limited to 550°C as a result. Depending on the medium, long-term oxidation mass losses can, however, already be measured from 450°C upwards. This is where the XP technology...
