Product catalog summary
Overview of In Mould Coating (IMC) Process
The In Mould Coating (IMC) process is a specialized technique where plastic components are coated within the tool using negative moulds during production. This eliminates the need for subsequent, time-consuming, and costly coating processes. The EfdEdur-In-Mould-CoaT ur1455 is a high-quality 2C coating system suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications, notable for not requiring an external separating agent, allowing for easy repair coating if damaged.
Production Steps and Variants
The IMC process offers a faster production method without additional coating steps. It distinguishes between 'open' and 'closed' processes. In the open process, coating and reinforcing material application occur in a non-closed tool, while in the closed process, the tool is sealed after coating before injecting the reinforcing material. The process involves coating a heated mould (50 - 65 °C), back injection moulding, and demoulding the coated component. Processing can be done via cup gun or 2C system.
Technical Specifications
The coating system is based on light-fast acrylic resin with a mixing ratio of 3:1 with Hu0061 curing agent. It has a viscosity of 40 - 50 seconds (DIN 4 mm) and a solid mass of 58%. The mixed solid mass is 54%, with a pot life of approximately 20 minutes undiluted and 90 minutes diluted. The gloss level varies from matt to high gloss depending on the mould.
Performance and Resistance
The ur1455 formulation is styrene-free, offering excellent UV resistance and mechanical properties comparable to conventional 2C systems. It is suitable for long-term outdoor use. Chemical resistance tests show high durability against various substances, including petrol, diesel, and hydraulic oil. The coating also performs well in resistance tests such as the WOM test for light-fastness and multi-impact testing for stone-chip resistance.
Applications
IMC coatings are extensively used in vehicle construction, producing high-quality interior components like dashboards and door linings, as well as exterior parts like bumpers and spoilers. The technology offers numerous possibilities for diverse applications.
