Introduction to PIMC
PIMC, or Powder InMould Coating, is a process used in the pressing tool for SMC/BMC components. It allows for pressing and coating in a single step, eliminating the need for costly subsequent coatings. This process enhances the quality of components while reducing total costs for customers and requiring minimal technical retrofitting.

Procedure
The PIMC procedure involves integrating powder coating into the pressing process. The coating is sprayed into the pressing mould, either manually or automatically, and hardens quickly. This allows the SMC/BMC to be laid in and pressed immediately, extending the cycle time by approximately 30 seconds. The finished component can be demoulded as usual, with the PIMC process leveling out typical fibre markings and providing a homogeneous surface.

Surface Properties
Surfaces created through PIMC have excellent chemical and mechanical resistance, making them suitable for permanent outdoor use. The powder coatings used are based on unsaturated polyester resins, designed to have low viscosity when heated and quickly gain hardness and resistance.

Application Example: Electrical Junction
SMC junction boxes, from a mechanical perspective, last at least 25 years. However, UV radiation can cause 'fibre blooming,' expanding surface fibres and posing injury risks. Traditionally, this required separate wet coating with multiple steps. PIMC provides a homogeneous, coated surface directly after pressing, eliminating fibre marking and the need for additional separating agents. The system is environmentally friendly, solvent-free, and styrene-free.

Benefits
PIMC reduces additional handling and logistical efforts, as no internal or external coating systems are necessary. It provides continuous protection against blooming and contamination over time.
