General Description The Chieftain D is a large, four tracked vehicle designed to move heavy payloads in mud, muskeg, swamp, and snow conditions. The high deck and sealed undercarriage components provide excellent fording ability combined with high approach and departure angles. The independent crankarm suspension and flexible track provide constant ground contact and absorb shock loads. Four track design with two tower mounted undercarriages. Full time power steering utilizing two double-acting steering cylinders per undercarriage. Heavy duty pressure compensating piston type steering pump and patented steering equalizer bar. Service brake is totally enclosed wet disc brakes on front and rear axles. Parking brake is spring applied, air released brake on driveline. Transmission Allison CLT 754DB, 5 speed Powershift transmission, complete with integral drop box. Differential Rockwell planetary drive axles with Detroit "No spins" front and rear. Metal face seals on planet hubs. Tires and Wheels 7:50 x 20-16 PR smooth crawler filled with Heavy Duty Urethane flat proofing material. Wheels are a steel disc type.
