Preheater calciner systems

Product catalog summary
Overview of Preheater Calciner Systems
Modern cement plants utilize multi-stage cyclone preheaters to preheat raw meal to calcination temperature. The majority of calcination occurs in a stationary calciner, with the remaining process completed in a rotary kiln. FLSmidth's In-Line Calciner (ILC) preheater, introduced in 1976, remains a leading technology due to its low emissions, operational flexibility, and ease of use.

ILC Preheater Functionality
The ILC preheater introduces raw meal at the top cyclone stage, where it is preheated by hot gas flow. Fuel combustion in the calciner achieves 92-95% calcination before the material enters the kiln. The design incorporates NOx reduction through a stage-less combustion process, utilizing a single firing location and tertiary air stream.

Key Benefits
  • Effective emission control
  • Easy operation
  • High reliability
  • Optimized fuel and power consumption
  • Suitability for low-grade fuels
  • Flexible design for upgrades

Design Characteristics
  • Capacity for plants of 13,000 tpd or more

Burning Alternative Fuels
The integration of the HOTDISC combustion device allows for the use of coarse alternative fuels, enhancing fuel flexibility without compromising process stability.

Design Considerations for Optimal Solutions
  • Number of cyclone stages based on drying and emission requirements
  • Number of cyclone strings related to plant capacity
  • Cyclone size balancing pressure drop and gas velocity

Preheater Components
  • LP cyclones for high thermal efficiency
  • Central pipes for high separation efficiency
  • Sluice flaps and distribution boxes for gas flow control
  • Dividing gates for meal distribution
  • Tertiary air duct damper for air flow regulation

Upgrades and Special Solutions
FLSmidth offers upgrades to existing kiln systems, including the SLC-D preheater calciner system, which provides flexibility in fuel use and minimal downtime for upgrades.

Successful on every level 2 An optimal process Today’s modern plant preheats raw meal to calcination temperature in a multi-stage cyclone preheater. Most of the calcination process takes place in a separately fired, stationary calciner, while the remaining calcination and clinkerization process takes place in a rotary kiln. FLSmidth has precisely what cement producers need to make it an optimal process. With its low emissions, flexibility and ease of operation, the FLSmidth In-Line Calciner (ILC) preheater has been a success since its debut in 1976. And thanks to our continual development of...

Preheater components 6 Cyclones FLSmidth preheaters have been based on proven low pressure loss (LP) cyclones. The unique design of the LP cyclone ensures high thermal efficiency and low pressure drop while enabling a flexible and space-saving layout. LP cyclones have no horizontal surfaces on the inside for material to accumulate, thereby securing stable operation. The top stage has a special geometry to provide the lowest dust loss while maintaining low pressure drop. LP cyclones are not just for completely new preheaters but may be individually fitted to upgrade existing preheaters. Central...
