Air Spring Maintenance

Air Spring Maintenance

Product catalog summary
Overview: Firestone air springs are designed for durability and longevity, often outlasting other suspension components. They are warranted against material defects and workmanship issues, with specific warranty periods depending on the application. Firestone provides a comprehensive range of Airide springs suitable for nearly all vehicular air suspension systems.
Installation and Inspection: Before installing a new air spring, inspect the old one to identify any suspension issues that may cause failure. Firestone air springs are located in various parts of trucks and trailers, including primary suspension, auxiliary axles, cab suspension, and steering axle suspension. Regular inspection is recommended based on usage, either quarterly, bi-annually, or every 50,000 miles.
Maintenance Guidelines: During inspections, check for debris, cuts, deformities, or rubs on the air springs. Damaged air springs should be replaced, and other suspension components should be checked for damage. Clean air springs annually with approved solutions like soapy water or alcohol to detect leaks. Avoid using organic solvents, open flames, abrasives, or pressurized steam.
Installation Precautions: Do not use an impact wrench for installation to avoid stripping fittings. Use torque wrenches and follow the torque table guidelines provided with new parts. Ensure all mounting hardware is properly tightened to manufacturer specifications.
Periodic Maintenance Checklist: Inspect the outside diameter of air springs for wear or heat cracking, ensure air lines do not contact air springs, maintain proper clearance around air springs, check for foreign material buildup, maintain correct ride height, inspect leveling valves, and ensure proper shock absorbers are in place.
Contact Information: For further maintenance details, visit Firestone's website or refer to their Heavy Duty catalog. Contact Firestone Industrial Products for support at their toll-free number or through their global offices.

Annual Inspection Listed below are items that can be checked when the vehicle is in for periodic maintenance. Never attempt to service the air suspension on a truck or trailer with the air springs inflated. 1 Inspect the OD (Outside Diameter) of the air spring. Check for signs of irregular wear or heat cracking. 2 Inspect air lines to make sure contact doesn’t exist between the air line and the O.D. of the air spring. Air lines can rub a hole in an air spring very quickly. 3 Check to see that there is sufficient clearance around the complete circumference of the air spring while at its maximum...
