Tightening automation Window frames field Automatic tightening system for door handles Fiam has designed and manufactured an assembly system to tighten automatically various types of grub screws on different models of door handle. The system will be integrated into a turntable, provided by the customer, with a high production rate which involves further handle machining processes to be carried out: - manual positioning - drilling - thread tapping - grub screw tightening - manual offloading The customer required a tightening cycle time of 1 grub screw every 3 seconds. Two types of grub screw with different sizes: same diameter M6 and lengths 9 and 12 mm. This system has an automatic grub screw feeding unit with a single circular feeder enabling to process both sizes of grub screws. Each time the grub screw needs to be changed, a quick and easy manual operation will allow to adapt the feeder in just a few seconds.

Once the grub screws have been separated and selected, they are sent to the retaining head to perform tightening. Tightening takes place by means of a nutrunner motor featuring instant automatic air shutoff, installed on a dualmovement fastening slide, which is located inside the customer’s turntable. The system also provides a precise control over grub screw positioning: the customer can select torque or depth control tightening because handles are made up of different metals.
