3 How to Select a TOfXTensioner Selecting a tensioner can be difficult because there is no cut-and-dried method for determining the amount of force a tensioner should develop. The size and type of tensioner (belt or chain) are determined based on knowing the drive parameters and power requirements, speed, torque, cycles, etc. These guidelines are suggestions to assist the designer. If there is any doubt, spring force determination should be made in consultation with the belt or chain manufacturer.
