Mineral Grinding

Product catalog summary
Overview of FAM's Grinding Technologies
FAM acquired Waagner-Biró's mineral grinding technology, which began in 1973 with the development of the Angular Spiral Lining (ASL) for large ball mills over 1000 kW. This technology has been implemented in approximately 70 large mill circuits globally, leading to the development of complete mill units and grinding plants.

Angular Spiral Lining
The ASL is newly installed in a 3.8 m cement mill, with installations ranging from one to four grinding lines using the compact model SBc limestone FGD-mills. These lines feature a 2-stage classifying particle size distribution.

Wet Grinding Applications
FAM provides wet grinding systems for producing highly reactive limestone slurries for wet FGD systems at thermal power stations. These systems include wet ball mill grinding circuits with energy-efficient classifiers and wet super fine grinding circuits producing slurries with P80 < 25 microns. Continuous Attritor mills are used for wet or dry micro grinding, producing slurries or powder with P80 < 15 microns.

Manufacturing and Quality Assurance
FAM manufactures key parts such as mill heads and shells in-house to ensure quality. They offer compact model ball mills up to 630 kW and girth gear/pinion driven ball mills up to 4500 kW.

Dry Grinding Applications
FAM provides a comprehensive range of services from consulting to commissioning and maintenance. Their installations include impact crushers, roller mills, jaw crushers, rod mills, and various types of ball mills. The MICROCOM ball mill is ideal for micro grinding, with air-swept type ball mills available for producing micro powders.

Contact Information
FAM's head office is located in Magdeburg, Germany, with a mineral grinding technology office in Vienna, Austria.
