Material SpecificationsFairlane's Quick Release Ball Lock Pins are available in three main material types: 17-4PH Stainless Steel, 300 Series Stainless Steel, and 4130 Alloy Steel. Each material has specific properties:
- 17-4PH Stainless Steel: Heat treated to a minimum of RC-40 with a tensile strength of 190,000 lb/in2. It features a passivated finish.
- 300 Series Stainless Steel: Includes CRES 304 and CRES 303, with a tensile strength of 73,000 lb/in2. It also has a passivated finish.
- 4130 Alloy Steel: Heat treated to RC36-40 with a tensile strength ranging from 160,000 to 180,000 lb/in2. It has a cadmium or clear zinc-nickel plate finish.
Performance DataThe performance data for the pins is categorized by diameter and includes hole size, minimum pull-out strength, and calculated double shear strength for different materials:
- Inch Measurements: Diameters range from 3/16" to 5/8" with varying pull-out strengths and shear strengths. Notably, 300 Series Stainless Steel is not recommended for applications involving shear forces.
- Metric Measurements: Diameters range from 5 mm to 16 mm, with corresponding pull-out and shear strengths provided for 4130 Steel and 17-4 Stainless Steel.
