Fish-Friendly Pump Pisces Facilis Fish-friendly pump 100 percent safe for eels Nijhuis Pompen BV’s patented fish-friendly (PF) pump, which was developed in collaboration with FishFlow Innovations, allows 100 percent of the eels and at least 97 percent of the fish to get through a pumping station unscathed. These results were measured during a practical test with live fish under supervision of the independent agency VisAdvies BV.* The PF pump was developed in response to the adverse effects of conventional pumps in pumping stations on the fish stock. A substantial part of the current fish mortality is caused when fish or eels collide with the impeller blades and/or guide vanes when passing through conventional pumping stations. Furthermore conventional pumps greatly interfere with the innate migration of fish, and the eel population is especially threatened. In addition to pumps in pumping stations, the low-pressure turbines of hydroelectric power plants impose a great risk to migrating fish.
