Virtualization technologies enhance data center efficiency but pose management challenges due to their dynamic nature. Extreme Networks Data Center Manager (DCM) provides automation, visibility, and control to ensure consistent application performance and unified management across networks.

Unified Virtual/Physical Data Center Fabric Management

DCM supports VDI, enabling secure access to virtual desktops from various devices, enhancing security and reducing operational costs. It integrates server, storage, and network virtualization for a unified view and efficient management.

Automated Provisioning

DCM automates policy application to data objects, ensuring consistent service delivery and reducing manual configuration errors. It provides insight across the data center, streamlining network changes and provisioning.

Visibility, Tracking, and Monitoring

DCM integrates with NetSight for real-time VM monitoring and historical tracking, enhancing management control and reducing costs through automation.

Integrated Workflow Process

DCM integrates with existing tools for comprehensive asset visibility and automated network configuration, reducing IT workload and enhancing efficiency.

Vendor-Agnostic Technology

DCM supports various server virtualization products, offering flexibility in server vendor choice and ensuring seamless integration.

Simplified Compliance

DCM aids in compliance tracking with built-in security features, automating provisioning processes, and enhancing network visibility.

Service Overview

DCM is delivered through NetSight, middleware, and integration services, including planning, configuration, and testing. It offers basic and advanced implementation levels, with additional VDI integration options.

Requirements

DCM requires a functional NetSight system, NAC, Mobile IAM appliances, and specific hardware and software elements for deployment.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Extreme Networks NetSight 6.0, including NAC Manager.
  • Extreme Networks switches with appropriate scale for multi-user authentication and policy feature at connected server ports.
Requirements for Use with VMware:
  • VMware ESXi with vSphere SDK.
  • Optional: VMware vCenter Server Standard for vSphere with license “VMware vSphere 5.5 Enterprise Plus” or higher for using distributed vswitches.
Requirements for Use with Citrix Xen:
  • XenServer with XenCenter.
Requirements for Use with VMware View:

All VMware vCenter and ESXi requirements apply. VMware View integration does not require special tools beyond DCM integration. Virtual desktops need to be configured to use 802.1x, and users must use the View Client to access desktops via PCoIP for user-based authentication. Extreme Networks S-Series, Summit Series, and 7100 Series can authenticate each virtual desktop individually and apply policies based on usernames. Standard DCM operation can provision rules for connected port groups if 802.1x authentication is unavailable. Refer to VMware View VDI documentation for setup procedures.

XenDesktop Adapter – Additional Requirements:
  • XenDesktop.
  • Windows Powershell 2.0 and Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 or later.
  • Extreme Networks DCM XenDesktop Agent.
Requirements for Use with Microsoft Hyper-V:
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V support.
  • A domain user account with Administrator rights on the server or in the Remote Users group.
  • Server Service and Remote Registry Service must be running on the server.
Exclusions:

The service is limited to the functions and scale stated. The following activities are not included but can be ordered separately: NAC, Mobile IAM implementation, integration of all network components into Extreme Networks Netsight, and network maintenance.

Data Center Manager Terms and Conditions:

If offered as a product, the cost of DCM implementation service will be credited towards the purchase of the NMS suite-based product, not exceeding the DCM product's total value. Professional Services Terms and Conditions are available on the Extreme Networks website.

Ordering Information:
  • DCM-Basic: Data Center Manager Software Only - Does not include support or installation.
  • PS-DCM-BasicRemote: Data Center Manager Remote Installation in Visibility Mode.
  • PS-DCM-ESU: On-Site installation of the Extreme Networks Data Center Manager.
