Product catalog summary
Overview
ExOne's 3D Printed Iron infiltrated with Bronze is a composite material consisting of 60% iron and 40% bronze infiltrant. It is known for its good mechanical properties, machinability, weldability, and excellent wear resistance.
Applications
This material is ideal for use in automotive components, machine tools, industrial components, tooling, and decorative hardware due to its robust properties.
Composition
The material is composed of low base carbon iron and bronze, which is 90% copper and 10% tin.
Printing Process
Using binder jetting technology, ExOne's 3D printing machines create parts directly from CAD models. The process involves jetting binder onto a powder bed and spreading new layers of powder until the part is complete. This method offers design flexibility, cost reduction, and shorter lead times.
Post Processing
After printing, parts are cured in an oven, sintered, and infiltrated with bronze at temperatures above 1100°C. The cooling process can be adjusted to control machinability and hardness.
Material Properties
  • Tensile Strength: Ultimate strength of 59 ksi (407 MPa) and yield strength of 37 ksi (255 MPa).
  • Elastic Modulus: 19 Mpsi (131 GPa).
  • Elongation: 17%.

Iron/Bronze Matrix-1

Iron Infiltrated with Bronze ExOne’s 3D Printed Iron infiltrated with Bronze is a matrix material composed of 60% iron and 40% bronze infiltrant. This material offers good mechanical properties, is able to be machined, welded and polished, and offers excellent wear resistance. Applications Iron is the most widely used material for industrial applications. This material system is ideally suited for automotive components, machine tools, industrial Iron / Bronze components, tooling, and decorative hardware. Composition Iron: Low base carbon Bronze: 90% Cu / 10% Sn Printing Using binder jetting technology, ExOne’s state-of-the-art 3D Printing machines Printed part produce parts directly from CAD models by precisely controlling the jetting of binder onto a powder bed, and then subsequently spreading new layers of powder. This process is repeated until the part is completed. This 3D Printing process offers increased design flexibility, reduced manufacturing cost and shortened lead times. Post Processing After printing is complete, the parts are cured in an oven, which enables the parts to be handled. After curing, the parts are sintered and infiltrated with bronze above 1100°C. Cool down can be varied to control the machinability and hardness of the material. INDUSTRIAL-GRADE MATERIALS FOR 3D PRINTING
